Police are searching for two brothers after a man was fatally stabbed and another injured following an argument in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services rushed to North Rd at Ormond in Melbourne’s south east about 1am Sunday.

A 30-year-old man was found dead after a fight broke out at the home, while a 22-year-old man was found with critical injuries.

Victoria Police are now looking for brothers, Abhijeet Abhijeet, 26, and Robin Gartan, 27, in relation to the incident.

The brothers are both of Indian descent, and are both described as having a solid build with black hair.

Neither has been charged with any crime, but police are looking to speak with them in relation to their investigation.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas from the Homicide Squad told media on Monday there was a “party or gathering” where the brothers were consuming alcohol.

“Throughout the evening there were some altercations occurring … prior to 1am an altercation has occurred … resulting in the two victims being stabbed,” Inspector Thomas said.

He described the attack as a “violent crime”, saying the use of knives is “concerning”.

Inspector Thomas is urging anyone in the community who have seen the brothers to contact police immediately so they can be “taken into custody and interviewed in relation to the stabbings”.

“If anyone comes across these two we ask that they don’t engage with them, but they contact triple-0 and share their location with police,” Inspector Thomas said.

Inspector Thomas said the brothers are believed to be residents of the North Rd address and had been consuming alcohol on the night of the attack.

He said there had been “some incidents” throughout the night prompting the victims coming to the house and assisting occupants “wanting to move out of the address”, prompting the stabbing.

While he didn’t go into detail, Inspector Thomas said there “was some yelling and carrying on”.

“Decisions were made at that time that some occupants would move out of the address and the two victims turned up, one of those victims does reside at that address but was in the process of moving out, and went around there,” Inspector Thomas said.

“Unfortunately the stabbings occurred and we have one person deceased.”

The pair are believed to have left the scene in a stolen 2014 white Toyota Camry sedan with registration 1ZO 2QW.

They were last seen in the Ormond area in the early hours of Sunday, just after the stabbing occurred.

Inspector Thomas said one of the men was on a student visa, while the other was on a bridging visa. Their family is believed to be overseas.

“We are aware they could be a flight risk,” he said on Monday.

It is understood the brothers were known to the victims and police are still working to establish the cause of the dispute.

Police have now released images of the brothers, as well as an image of the vehicle they are believed to be travelling in.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who knows the current whereabouts of these men.
