Kmart’s $40 version of $4,000 item revealed

A $40 item from Kmart has made a huge splash after it was compared to designer items that retail for close to $4000.

Kmart released its version of the Crop Trench Coat, which comes in a sandstone colour in sizes six to 20.

However, popular Instagram page Kmart Insider compared the on-trend trench coat to versions from designer brands.

“Stop what you’re doing. This season’s biggest jacket trend just landed at @kmartaus and we can snap it up for just $40,” the page announced.

The Kmart coat was compared to a version from Burberry, which retails for $3350 and one from Loewe, which has a $3990 price tag.

The Burberry version is a light colour in comparison to the Kmart one while the Loewe jacket is made of water-repellent cotton drill and features flared sleeves.

It was also compared to more affordable options such as a $139.95 Decjuba jacket and a $349 Country Road cropped trench.

But, despite the differences, social media users were adamant about which one they’d choose.

“I actually prefer the look of the Kmart one over the first two super expensive ones,” one social media user commented.

Another slammed the design in general, saying; “Ridiculous jacket at any price.”

“It’s giving chic inspector gadget vibes,” another social media user said.

One added: “Omg Kmart one looks so chic.”

“I just bought … … love love love,” another commented.

Another social media user was an adamant fan of the Kmart version, commenting; “I’d take the Kmart one over any of the others.”

The cropped trench only landed in stores this week.
