Tom Trbojevic suffers hamstring injury for Sea Eagles against Dolphins in horror sight no one wants to see

Manly Sea Eagles fullback Tom Trbojevic is seemingly set for another stint on the sidelines after suffering yet another hamstring injury in his side’s 30-24 loss to the Dolphins.

In a back and forth affair, the Sea Eagles had hit the lead in the 62nd minute after Reuben Garrick kicked a penalty goal.

But just four minutes later, the Dolphins replied to make it 28-24 after Jack Bostock slid into the corner.

Trbojevic, who had earlier clutched an ankle over what wasn’t ultimately deemed a hip drop tackle, ran across in cover but slid off the back of Bostock.

However, he was running at speed and cannoned into a cameraman, sweeping his legs out from under him.

Trbojevic didn’t make it back onto the field as he limped down the sideline.

Soon after he was ruled out of the remainder of the match after suffering a hamstring injury.

Trbojevic looked quite dejected on sideline, and Cooper Cronk pondered whether it was more serious.

Fox Sports sideline reporter Corey Parker said the Sea Eagles trainers had mouthed the word “hammy”.

Late in the game he confirmed it was a hamstring injury but the severity would be determined by a scan tomorrow.

Parker said as he walked past him “it didn’t look good”.

Cronk added a hamstring injury with a limp “seems to be on the serious side”.

With State of Origin a matter of weeks away, Warren Smith said: “(new NSW Origin coach) Michael Maguire might need smelling salts”.

Post-match, Manly coach Anthony Seibold said he didn’t have any more information other than it was definitely a hamstring.

It was frustrating for Trbojevic, particularly after running 116m and having a line break, line break assist and try assist.

Speaking on The Late Show with Matty Johns, Gorden Tallis said the issue was that Trbojevic showed “bad tackling technique”.

“Tommy’s a big body, he should have put a shoulder on him,” Tallis said.

“The game’s on the line, if you see a Billy Slater, they’d put on a shoulder charge.”

Trbojevic has suffered hamstring injuries in 2019, 2020, 2021 and last year’s preseason.

He also suffered a season-ending pectoral muscle injury during Origin last year.

Nine Radio’s Andrew Lucas tweeted: “Disheartening for Tom Trbojevic suffering another hamstring injury, hopefully not a serious one. Nervous scan coming up.”

The NRL Physio posted: “Tom Trbojevic off with a reported hamstring injury – didn’t look good with significant effect on his gait/function.

“Significant history here obviously a concern – is his 6th hamstring injury in the past 6 seasons. Unlikely to be a week or two recovery.”

AAP’s Scott Bailey wrote: “Two of the worst sights in rugby league in the past five days. Ryan Papenhuyzen and Tom Trbojevic limping from the field.

“Two guys who just deserve so much better than the luck they’ve had.”
