MyTimeToShineHello shared X's post claiming that Gunn and DC Studios are looking to cast a middle-aged actor as Batman. While MyTimeToShineHello didn't say they were being considered for the role, their post included images of Josh Hartnett, Jake Gyllenhaal and Penguin actor Colin Farrell. The Batman casting rumor seemingly caught Gunn's attention after Small Screen broke the “news,” prompting him to share the story on Threads, adding “[bulls**t]While Gunn previously noted that sometimes scoopers share news that isn't correct because their sources gave the wrong information, he called this latest Batman rumor intentional misinformation:
Sometimes rumors get it wrong – but other times they just seem to be making things up to click out of whole cloth. This is one of the last ones.
Since Gunn shared Small Screen's post while debunking Batman casting rumors, one Threads user felt the need to point out that the online publication was not the source of the rumors. Gunn responded by clarifying that he didn't mean to say Small Screen was “being dishonest.” Responding to Threads, Small Screen wrote: “Thanks! That really means a lot from you! I took the post down and I'm really sorry. It sounded great, but I'm very excited to see who ends up being cast as Batman in the DCU. This is all from places of love, passion and excitement.” Gunn responded by reiterating that the small screen didn't cause the rumor.
Seemingly undeterred, MyTimeToShineHello responded to Gunn by sharing another X post, writing, “Remember when the Superman and Ultraman suits were 'revealed'. Let's wait and see.” This was in reference to claims by scoopers CanWeGetsomeToast and Daniel Richtman that Ultraman would be Superman's main enemy in Gunn's upcoming feature film of the same name. Gunn seemingly denied the rumors, clarifying that Lex Luthor is his main antagonist. Superman film. However, Superman A set of photos seemed to confirm that Ultraman was in the movie. Gunn's defenders noted that he never said Ultraman wasn't in the movie, just that he wasn't the main villain. Richtman defended his original coverage, explaining that Ultraman is the main villain Superman has to face, as he reportedly never fights Lex Luthor in the film.
While Gunn acknowledges that some false rumors come from information sources believe to be true, he seems to have no time for blatant misinformation. When he revealed the rumor of a spinoff Mr. Freeze Batman, acknowledged that rumors can be fun for fans, but advised them not to believe the information unless it comes from him or DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran. However, the rumors are likely to continue until the official cast is announced, so fans have been warned.
