Battlefield 6 mods some skins to be more grounded

The Battlefield 6 skin discourse just continues. After reassuring fans by announcing that the game wouldn't feature silly cosmetics like Call of Duty, Dice immediately disappointed them with a bright blue look in the first season. As you can imagine, the backlash was strong, which has now prompted the developers to tone down the colors.

Dice recently teamed up with 5.11, a tactical clothing brand, to help diversify Battlefield 6's cosmetics while keeping it grounded. Now some of the brightly colored skins seem to be softening. While the infamous bright blue skin is still unchanged, some others are tweaked.

The bright blue Wicked Grin skin from Battlefield 6 Season 1.

While the bright blue Wicked Grin skin was the focus of fan fury, there were several other skins that featured some splashes of bright colors. Among them is the System Override skin, which featured bright green trim and layers. Fans called it an unofficial collaboration with Monster before the green color was much darker.

Personally, I feel like the bright colors we've seen so far are still fine on their own, but could have been a gateway to something terrible. And once you're on this track, it's only a few steps before Nicky Minaj takes down skyscrapers with a rocket launcher. I guess the fans were worried about that too, hence the strong reaction.

Fans on Reddit seem pretty happy with the move, especially since it means the developers are listening to the community. However, they probably won't celebrate until the bright blue elephant in the room is addressed.

While I think there's only so much you can do with “grounded” military skins before they all start looking the same, Dice's partnership with a tactical clothing brand could provide developers with additional sources of inspiration. It can soon become a question of how many camos you can add to a certain outfit.
