Black Myth: Wukong – Horse Guai Quest Guide

The Guai horsealso known as Ma Tianba, is one of the characters you can meet during the first chapter Black Myth: Wukong. This character appears several times throughout the game and interaction with him is optional. However, a mysterious expedition centers around him, which can be deviously easily missed.

This quest requires encountering Horse Guai in almost every chapter Black Myth: Wukongbut it's worth completing for the final reward: the powerful Dark Thunder transformation technique. This guide details every location where you need to talk to Horse Guai Black Myth: Wukongalong with an expanded section detailing the details of the Dark Thunder transformation.

You have to exhaust all options of the dialogue for The Guai horse before moving on to the next chapter. This is because it is one of the must-see quests of the game, and if it fails, you will have to try again in their NG+ game.

Chapter 1 (Bamboo Grove): Talk to Horse Guai Near Back Hills

After defeating Lingxuzi you will reach Back Hills Guardian's Shrine. From this shrine, head down the stairs and when you see an enemy Yaoguai, head left into the cave. Inside, you will meet Ma Tianba for the first time.

Chapter 2 (Sandgate Village): Talk to Horse Guai Near Village Entrance

from Entrance to the village Keeper's Shrine, go through the gates ahead and turn left towards a small structure. You will find the Guai horse tied to one of the pillars. Exhaust his dialogues before proceeding to the next step.

Chapter 3 (New Thunderclap Temple): Talk to Horse Guai Near Mahavira Temple

Chapter 3 is loaded with boss fights, so it's easy to see how you can miss this Horse Guai encounter. Inside New Temple of Thunderclapyou will have to achieve Mahavira Hall Guardian's Shrine. From the shrine, turn around and go down the stairs. When you approach the building straight ahead, turn right and go down the stairs to the next building. Head inside the building, ignore the blindfolded enemies and climb the stairs into the building second floor. Turn left to find a Guai horse standing next to a hanging bell.

Chapter 4 (Webbed Hollow): Talk to Horse Guai Near Bonevault

from Bonevault Keeper's Shrine, head left and follow the path to the right to get down to the boss arena for Centipede Guai. After the boss fight, head to the left of the arena and follow the path to the left until you see and giant cocoon. Hit the cocoon a few times to trigger a cutscene. This will reveal the Guai horse that was trapped inside the cocoon and you can talk to him after the cutscene ends.

Make sure exhaust his dialogue here before continuing through the rest of the area.

A stoic Daoist master requires a certain vessel to facilitate combat in Black Myth: Wukong.

Chapter 5 (Furnace Valley): Defeat the Burning Mountain Guardian

Continue through the chapter until you reach Emerald Hallwhere you fight the Keeper of Flaming Mountains and Yin-yang fish. Defeating this boss is all you need to do for this step, but it is a critical step.

Chapter 5 (Furnace Valley): Interact with the broken item cart near the valley entrance

Head straight from Entrance to the valley Keeper's Shrine, ignoring the rock enemies around you. Once you're near the shield enemy, drop into the lava area to the right. Follow this path and you can hear Ma Tianba's voice sounded nearby.

Deal with the enemies around the element cart, then head to the front of the cart and press the “force pull” interaction button.

Once you finish interacting with the whip, you will get it Dark Thunder Transformation, one of the stronger Transformations in Black Myth: Wukong.

  • Description: A cunning change is brewing in the dark, a slow step but decisive. Transform into a guai horse, immune to Thunder Damage and inflict Thunder Bane on the enemy. Focus created before transformation can be converted for later use.

  • Talent Upgrade (Bolt Runner): Each talent level slightly increases Thunder Damage (six talent levels total).

Attack

Description

Light Attack: Lightning Lashes

Slam the enemy forward one by one and gain Focus with each hit.

Heavy Attack: Thunderbolt Sweep

Whip the enemies around you in turn, and with each blow you strengthen the Focus.

Spell: Lightning Infusion

In transformation, this spell can be cast with full concentration. Raise the whip skyward, allowing the thunder to fill you through it, charging you into a state of excitement.

Light Attack: Thunder Flurry (Thrilled State)

In the Thrilled State, each whiplash summons lightning to attack the enemy.

Heavy Attack: Thunder Domination (Thrilled State)

In Thrilled State, raise your whip to conjure up a thunder formation that occasionally attacks enemies within range.
