Borderlands 4 bounty packs are betting on the wrong horse

Borderlands 4The fight to maintain the player base has continued since launch, releasing major balance updates and performance fixes to ensure the game not only runs smoothly, but is fair for all playstyles. Although not a live service game, Borderlands 4 is about as live a service as it gets without fully committing to a model, with a post-launch plan that clearly focuses on continuity. So far, this post-launch content hasn't sat well with some players, as the upcoming release of the first Bounty Pack, How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, is a sign that it may be putting all its eggs in the wrong basket.

Each of Borderlands 4The Bounty Packs plan to bring a lot of new content to the game with them, albeit at a price. On paper, this sounds like it could only help the game's longevity in the long run, potentially drawing players back on a regular basis. Borderlands 4 the community has been voicing their concerns lately and they don't seem to match what the Bounty Packs are advertising. Even the first Bounty Pack, set to launch on November 20th, is already facing criticism for its apparent priorities.

Borderlands 4's Bounty Packs rely heavily on cosmetics

Announced before release as part of Borderlands 4By design, Bounty Packs are designed to act as mini DLC drops that introduce new missions, areas, bosses, rewards, and progression hooks through Vault cards. Rather than big, story-driven expansions like in the past Border Season Pass, Bounty Packs aim to provide frequent injections of content to keep players engaged between larger updates. In theory, they are supposed to give Borderlands 4 they remain after launch and serve as a substitute for traditional seasonal services.

Here's what everyone Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack includes:

  • A new unique area with new missions and a unique boss

  • Vault card with 24 cosmetics and 4 pieces of legendary equipment

  • New Vault Hunter cosmetics

  • New car with new cosmetics

  • New legendary gear

The harsh reality is that most of these Bounty Packs are not real content, but rather the illusion of content. Most of these additions are actually cosmetic in nature and with them Borderlands 4 Since this is primarily a first-person single-player game, skins don't matter as much to players as they might in a different context.

The new “missions” included in the Bounty Packs are presented as vague enough that it's safe to assume they're just the main story missions. There's only one new boss in each pack, and the “new unique area” doesn't have to be big to be labeled as such. Finally, the “new legendary gear” consists of four repackable pieces, and given how the current Horrors of Kairos event's legendary gear has been received, if these Bounty Packs don't arrive in this arena, they'll likely be written off as worthless.

But the point of game Bounty packs is that they think players will be satisfied Borderlands 4post-marketing content if it contains more cosmetics. However, based on a thread in a recent X post by @EpicNNG, this is clearly not the case. Underneath the @EpicNNG image of How Rush Saved the Mercenary Day Bounty Pack key art and the statement, “Everything is riding on this landing,” many players expressed their frustration with Borderlands 4's obvious favor for her beauty game. One player even said that the only thing the community cares about is the new legendary weapons and that there are already too many cosmetics.

To the point that many of these players have done, the game's content has been overrun with cosmetics since launch, with some of the driving force behind it being community challenges. WITH Borderlands 4The endgame is already under intense scrutiny, it's only a matter of time before the playerbase it abandoned decides to jump ship if it doesn't change course soon and start offering more substantial content.

That may actually be the problem Borderlands 4 it behaves like a live service game, even though it isn't. It seems to rely on the literal appearance of content to keep players interested, but judging by the comments on Reddit threads and posts like @EpicNNG's, that's just not enough to keep players around much longer.
