In addition to assuring that the game is in the process of receiving various quality-of-life updates, bug fixes, and overhauls, creative director Guangguang confirmed that the game will retain 60 tick rate servers while operating in several new regions. Players will be able to choose a preferred server for lower ping and faster matchmaking. He further stated that Marvel Rivals will feature a core lineup of 33 heroes and villains.
The game's December release will coincide with the start of Season 0, officially titled “Doom's Rise.” This season's title is aptly named after the hero's main antagonist, Dr. Doom, who plays a key role in the narrative, especially through his involvement in the “Time Experiments”. WITH Marvel RivalsMap-specific stories that continue to evolve over time and potentially expand upon Dr. Dooma, Season 0 marks the beginning of a promising future for the game.
Season 0, focused on a mini-season, will have a month-long lifespan. This should not only help ease players into the game, but also allow the developers to iron out any major issues before fully diving into it. Regardless, during this period NetEase Games will be introducing the following:
- 33 heroes
- 8 maps for Quick Match and Competitive modes
- Conquest map
- A new series of exercises
- Shortened Battle Pass
Conquest in Marvel Rivals is a variation of Team Deathmatch. It is currently the only mode that does not adhere to 6v6.
Subsequently, Season 1, the first full season, will debut in early January. Subsequent seasons will be modeled similarly to this one, each lasting around three months and introducing new heroes, team-building abilities, maps, and occasionally new game modes. Since Marvel Comics is home to a large number of locations, future map options for Marvel Rivals seem endless. It has not been confirmed if multiple characters will be released at the same time like those in Season 0, or if only one hero will be introduced each season.
Marvel Rivals Battle Pass monetization and system explained
Despite Marvel Rivals adopting a live service model with a battle pass, the development team noted that there would be no “pay to win” schemes. Additionally, due to the brevity of Season 0, the corresponding Battle Pass will be sold accordingly, although the price tag has not been specified. Reaching different levels will bring skins, avatars, sprays, currency and more.
As the game nears the end of its development cycle, more details regarding Marvel Rivals' plan should be made available after launch. It will likely go into feature depth including but not limited to new heroes, competitive play, whether cross-progression will be optimized for Marvel Rivalsand in-game store. Hopefully NetEase Games will continue their effective communication in the days leading up to the game's launch.
