Diablo 4 Patch 2.5.0 hits but renders a new target

Diablo 4 players will get their first look at some massive fixes next season with the launch of update 2.5.0. Recently released patch notes for Diablo 4 update 2.5.0 details how the Tempering and Masterworking changes will affect gear progression, while also introducing a new type of upgrade in the form of Sanctification. Although it seems Diablo 4 is taking big steps to correct the major problems with the Tempering and Masterworking systems, a new set of problems could arise with the introduction of consecration.

Along with changes to Diablo 4Tempering and Masterworking mechanics, patch 2.5.0 also overhauled some of the game's other systems, including improved monster difficulty, the Tier 11 Divine Gift mechanic, and a new invasion of Lesser Evils, and the return of leaderboards in tandem with the new Tower dungeon. After popularity Diablo 4 Season 10, it's an encouraging sign that the game continues to implement positive changes in the next update. However, these mechanical overhauls may not be enough to address the most significant criticism of the current transmission upgrade system.

Players can try out these new mechanics via Diablo 4's PTR from October 21st to October 28th.

Upcoming Diablo 4 Patch 2.5.0 for Season 11 Fixes Tempering and Masterworking, but Brings a New Issue

The most frustrating part of upgrading gear Diablo 4 is the randomness associated with tempering and masterworking. Under the current system, Tempering an item involves an RNG around which a suffix from a given Temper Manual is applied, with a limited number of chances to apply the desired one. Masterworking also offers a level of randomness for every fourth position in deciding which affix gets the 25% upgrade, creating a situation where players have to bet on their upgrades and potentially spend a lot of resources just to get their gear to the ideal state.

Tempering Changes in Diablo 4 Patch 2.5.0

  • Tempering now allows players to select the affix they want to use.

  • Items can only have one tempered affix.

  • Tempering fees can now be renewed indefinitely.

The removal of RNG for tempering is the biggest win of these patch notes. Allowing players to choose which affix is printed on an item should be ready Diablo 4's endgame a lot less work, though it does mean that only one affix can be tempered per item. Since charges are renewed indefinitely, players also don't have to worry about grinding a scroll of regeneration to reset unwanted moods on their gear.

Masterworking Changes in Diablo 4 Patch 2.5.0

  • It no longer increases the affix value of the item, instead improving the quality.

  • 20 is the maximum quality threshold at which players can roll last and get the Capstone bonus.

  • Capstone bonuses upgrade a random non-Greater Affix to a Greater Affix and can be re-rolled with Obducite and Neathiron.

Masterpiece in Diablo 4 is changing drastically, but potentially for the better. Rather than focusing on affix upgrades, patch 2.5.0 makes it so that Masterworking an item improves its quality and adds bonus damage, armor, or durability to the item. This system still provides the ability to upgrade affixes somewhat, with the Capstone bonus on a Masterworked item turning a Lesser Affix into a Greater Affix. While this system seems random, it can easily be rolled over with existing Obducite and Neathiron materials, so it's not as much of a gamble as it used to be.

How Sanctification Undermines Diablo 4 2.5.0 Device Enhancement Patch

Largest potential wildcard Diablo 4 Patch 2.5.0 equipment update system is the new Sanctification mechanic. This mechanic makes the item unmodifiable and acts as the last step in the path to upgrading a piece of equipment, offering some potentially game-changing affixes at a frustrating cost. Sanctification has a chance to:

  • Use a bonus legendary power

  • Upgrade the affix to a larger affix

  • Add a bonus affix from the Consecration special affix pool

  • Replace the existing affix with a random consecration affix

  • Make your item indestructible and prevent it from losing life

While these upgrades sound fantastic in theory, the method of obtaining them seems to harken back to the old habits that made Tempering so painful. Consecration of item v Diablo 4 again putting the player at the mercy of the RNG with the added danger of ruining an otherwise perfect item due to the permanent nature of Sanctification. This system could be a controversy waiting to happen, especially if the player finds his dream Diablo 4 A mythic item gains the required emotes and Capstone bonus from Masterworking, only to use a suboptimal consecration that cannot be undone. While the overall changes to this system seem to benefit the game, Sanctification could be a new source of headaches. Diablo 4 players.
