Don't fall for this Fallout 76 Atomic Shop scam like I did

As someone who recently returned Fallout 76 after six years, I can confidently say that I had a great time with the multiplayer title. Sure, there are annoying issues like the consistent crashing in the PlayStation version and the usual bethesda RPG hotness, but they weren't enough to take away from the fun of the game. I've had fun exploring the world while going to Appalachia Radio, experiencing amazing interactions with the community, and thinking about how to create the CAMP of my dreams with every piece of junk I collect. With such a positive Fallout 76 I wanted to spend some money in the Atomic Shop to show some support for the game, but unfortunately one of the purchases – the Space Suit outfit – feels like a big mistake. Unfortunately, I'm not alone in this feeling, as other players have fallen victim to this incomplete package.

What's wrong with the Atomic Shop suit from Fallout 76?

Big problem with Fallout 76The space suit is simple: it lacks the helmet, the most amazing part of the ensemble. When I bought this pack, I assumed I wouldn't just get the orange coated dots. However, when I went over to the Armor workbench, I was confused to find that I only had a plan for the suit itself. No matter how hard I looked at the diagrams of my headgear and helmet, the other piece of clothing I expected to have access to was nowhere to be found. This left me confused until I searched online and found several Reddit threads where people were talking about having the exact same problem. For whatever reason, be it different Fallout 76 Atomic Shop error (Old Glory Fireplace also has issues) or whoever added the item, it turns out that no helmet is included in the 400 atom pack.

Considering I also bought a 700-Atomic Space Explorer backpack so I could feel like a full astronaut, I have a total of 1100 atoms for clothes other than what I sold. I don't feel like using it until the helmet is in the store or I can find it in the game world.

If this was a case where I and the other Vault Dwellers hadn't read the contents of the Atomic Shop pack, I wouldn't be so upset. However, this particular package does not mention that the helmet is not included. The description simply says “shoot for the stars and survive”, while every single image – including a space suit miniature – features a character in a space suit and helmet. With two large images and a smaller thumbnail indicating that I would get a helmet when I bought the space suit, I couldn't help but feel cheated after this purchase. Despite all the crashes, trading glitches, and times my character got stuck in an environment, this misleading cosmetic pack is the first time I've been truly disappointed since I returned. Fallout 76.

While this article will hopefully reach players before they purchase a spacesuit, there are a few options available for those who have already made the mistake of purchasing this item. The first is to contact Bethesda support and request a refund, which is fairly simple and players usually get their Atoms back very quickly. However, for players who do not want to give up this costume, there is one more option available: finding the Space Suit helmet in the open world. Sure, it looks a little different and doesn't do exactly what Atomic Shop promised (the premium version has a bigger visor), but it's a way to save clothing if players don't feel like pursuing a refund.

What's particularly frustrating about this whole Atomic Shop fiasco is that when the space suit first appeared in the Atomic Shop over half a decade ago, it seemingly came with a helmet. This may add weight to the theory that the item is buggy, so maybe a fix is coming soon. At the same time, the price of the old package was 800, which suggests that the spacesuit is indeed intended as a standalone, and the confusion is purely from the images used. If that's the case, then maybe the Space Suit helmet will be coming to the store soon as a separate purchase.

Regardless, it's very frustrating that I can't match my fiance and her girly Nuka Cola suit (yes, this one really has a helmet) for now. Next time I play, I'll have to take a break from clearing out the ash pile to go find one of the helmets in the above locations, though I don't think I'll be able to help but see that it doesn't quite match my outfit. I will definitely be a bit more careful when buying from Atomic Shop in the future, I will only buy packages where all the contents are detailed and I am fully confident that I will get exactly what was advertised.
