Known as FromSoftware’s most accessible game, Elden Ring still pulls no punches when it comes to boss fights. Some of the toughest encounters in any of their games are found within The Lands Between.

Yet not all bosses are created equal, with many offering less of a challenge than others. In total, there are 238 boss fights in Elden Ring, many of which are boss versions of enemies that can be found roaming the world. Even among the unique or main quest bosses, not every encounter has a high skill wall to overcome, providing a much-needed boost to players before the end-game difficulty spike.
Updated October 20, 2024 by Andy Chapman: Shadow of the Erdtree released to widespread acclaim, with players old and new discovering the vast area that makes up the Land of Shadow. The DLC brought more challenges, from tough enemies hiding in every corner of the map to boss fights that test the limits of even the best players.
Elden Ring’s status as one of the best games ever made has been firmly established, with FromSoftware now one of the top game developers in the world. This article has been updated to include further entries to give a better overview of the easiest bosses in Elden Ring.
1 Scadutree Avatar
A Unique Triple Phase Boss
The Scadutree Avatar is certainly no push-over. With its three-phase battle and dangerous ranged attacks that inflict blood-loss buildup, this boss can deal heavy damage quickly. It’s possible to miss the Avatar entirely, as it is only accessible after players have drained the sunken area of the Shadow Keep.
Found at the base of the Scadutree, the monstrous sunflower is surprisingly quick. It can launch itself across the large arena at a moment’s notice, dealing high amounts of damage. While the Avatar is quick and dangerous, its HP is considerably less than other bosses in the DLC. This means a few well-timed attacks can put an end to the fight.
2 Morgott, The Omen King
Powerful and Fast, But Weak to Bleed
This exciting boss encounter is found at the halfway point of the game and can be challenging for players due to the foe’s fast movement and delayed attacks. Morgott guards the entrance to the Erdtree, and while it is certainly a tough fight, players will have already faced off against the character twice in the game.
Morgott, the Omen King is by far the hardest version of this boss, but by this point, players should have little trouble taking him down. His health bar is relatively small, his poise can be broken easily, and he is weak to lightning and bleed. The fight is epic in scale, and his attacks can seem relentless, but some well-timed hits will soon drain his health bar. While he may pose a challenge to some, most players will dispatch the Omen King after only a few attempts.
3 Fire Giant
Slow-Moving and Weak To Bleed
This colossal boss fight may be epic in scale, but few players will struggle to overcome this memorable encounter. Elden Ring players will find this gargantuan enemy late in the game once they have traversed most of the map and found their way to the snowy region in the far north. Fire Giant guards the Forge of the Giants, which players need to reach to progress the main story.
When first encountered, this fight can prove tough due to the boss’ extreme size and equally large health pool. However, players will soon discover the Fire Giant can be taken down quicker than expected. One of his feet is a weak point, which allows players to reach the second phase quickly. The boss area also offers a lot of room and allows players to use Torrent for quicker mobility. In addition, bleed can be effective against this boss and will help to whittle away at its large amount of health.
4 Godfrey, First Elden Lord (Golden Shade)
A Fun Battle That Is Over Too Quickly
- Location: Leyndell, Royal Capita
- Drops: 80,000 Runes
- HP: 7099
Leyndell, Royal Capital, is one of the most original and striking areas in Elden Ring, with tough challenges waiting around every corner. Eventually, players will come to a boss wall and meet the Golden Shade version of Godfrey, the First Elden Lord.
Godfrey, First Elden Lord is by no means a pushover, but compared to the real version encountered later in the game, he doesn’t quite live up to the name. By the time the player reaches this boss, they will have come up against tougher challenges and overcome them, so dealing with Godfrey shouldn’t require too much work.
5 Mohg, The Omen
A Taster of the Real Thing
- Location: Subterranean Shunning Grounds
- Drops: 100,000 Runes
- HP: 14,000
Much like Godfrey, this easier version of a tough later boss is underwhelming. Found below the royal capital, guarding a hidden wall that leads to the frenzied flame, Mohg, the Omen can dish out some heavy damage but offers little in the way of challenge.

If Elden Ring players aren’t careful, these devastating boss attacks can easily one-shot them.
With a limited move set and well-telegraphed attacks, most players will defeat Mohg relatively quickly. Also, like the Golden Shade Godfrey, players will be experienced enough in the game at this point to take on the fight with little to worry about.
6 Rykard, Lord Of Blasphemy
One Of The Best Spectacle Battles In Elden Ring
One of the most iconic fights in Elden Ring for the voice acting alone, Rykard is a terrifying gimmick fight that delivers in droves. What it lacks in difficulty, it makes up for in pure chaotic joy, reveling in its unabashed spectacle.
Found after completing the Volcano Manor legacy dungeon, the fight is more thematic than challenging, with the weapon needed for victory waiting at the opening of the boss room. Rykard is one of the central characters within the lore of the game, and it is a fight that shouldn’t be missed, even though the battle itself is lacking in terms of difficulty.
7 Margit, The Fell Omen
A Tough Challenge For New Players
The first major story boss that new players will encounter in the game, taking on Margit, the Fell Omen too early can be a true challenge. His attacks are fast and unrelenting, and finding an opening on a first attempt is tough. This boss fight is a test for players and a taste of what’s to come later.
A common mistake new players make in Elden Ring is taking on Margit too early. There’s all of Limgrave to explore before moving on to Stormveil Castle and plenty of opportunities to level up, find better gear, and take on easier boss fights. Elden Ring is a big game, and by taking the time to explore and level, players will discover that Margit isn’t the impossible challenge he first seemed.
8 Godrick The Grafted
A Fun Introduction To The Game
The Godrick boss fight is one of the highlights of the starting area in Elden Ring. This boss is found at the end of Stormveil Castle, the first major legacy dungeon in the game. The fight can be tough for those less experienced, but having already defeated the tougher Margit, the Fell Omen, players shouldn’t find Godrick to be too much of a challenge.
Although Godrick is one of the easier story bosses within the game, the fight offers a hugely enjoyable experience. Fast-paced, with a fun array of attacks, this battle has a ton of character.
9 Sir Gideon Ofnir, The All-Knowing
Dangerous Spells, But Weak to Attack
Players will first meet Sir Gideon when they reach the Roundtable Hold early in the game. This NPC acts as the leader of the Tarnished but is ruthless in his actions and holds many secrets to himself. Once players have progressed to the end stages of the game, Ofnir will reveal himself as a foe and stand in the way of them becoming Elden Lord.
This fight can be tough, as Sir Gideon Ofnir, The All-Knowing has access to many spells, both sorceries and incantations. The amount of spells he wields can depend on which shardbearers the player has defeated and which were reported to Ofnir earlier in the game. Although he can bombard players with a lot of magic, his health bar is small, so a few well-timed attacks will take him down quickly. Intelligence build characters can also use the Eternal Darkness sorcery, which will redirect almost all of his attacks.
10 Rennala, Queen Of The Full Moon
Powerful Magic That Fails Against Aggression
Rennala is another boss battle that is heavier on spectacle than difficulty. A central figure within the world of Elden Ring, the fight is required for the Age of Stars ending. It takes place at the end of The Academy of Raya Lucaria and has two distinct phases.

In the second phase, the fight truly begins. Rennala uses spells that can cause huge damage, but with a few well-timed attacks, her health can disappear quickly, ending the battle before it gets a chance to start.
11 Tree Sentinel
A Tough Challenge For New Players
Tree Sentinel is the first boss encounter in the game. As soon as the Tarnished leaves the tutorial dungeon, this golden armored rider is patrolling just below and is certainly a big challenge for new players. Taking on Tree Sentinel and defeating him then and there is possible but not recommended. It is much better to level up, find better equipment, and return later on.
Once players have gotten used to the game and improved their equipment, Tree Sentinel becomes a much easier encounter. His move set doesn’t change much throughout the fight, and most attacks are easily dodged.
12 Leonine Misbegotten
A Simple Battle in a Scenic Arena
One of the early notable battles in Elden Ring, Castle Morne isn’t one of the main story characters or even a lesser one. Versions of this boss also appear in the late game as common enemy encounters.

Elden Ring: 16 Overpowered Builds
These powerful, OP builds will make adventuring and fighting through the world of Elden Ring feel like a walk at the local park.
Found at the end of Castle Morne in the Weeping Peninsula, the boss has a move-set reminiscent of Slave Knight Gael in Dark Souls 3. While it is a fast-paced fight, it has none of the impact of that battle. Nonetheless, the setting of the fight is stunning, and it is a good tester for later battles to come.
13 Ancient Dragon-Man
More Man Than Dragon
Players will first encounter the Ancient Dragon-Man as an invader when approaching The Dragon’s Pit in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Once the cave has been explored, players will find a deep hole. Dropping into the hole will reveal the fog wall to the real Ancient Dragon-Man.
This mini-boss guards the route to Jagged Peak and is a fun challenge for players. While Ancient Dragon-Man can deal significant damage, especially with his Dragon Communion Incantation attacks, he is ultimately no stronger than any other NPC found in the game. For achieving victory, players are rewarded with a powerful weapon, the Dragon-Hunter’s great Katana, which does additional damage against Dragons.
14 Tree Sentinels (Hinterlands)
Easy Bosses For Experienced Players
The Hinterlands is an area of Elden Ring’s DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, in stark contrast to the rest of the Lands of Shadow. The area is lush with life and leads to one of the Hallowed Finger Ruins. It’s where players will find the beautiful Shaman Village, the home of Marika herself.
Before players can explore the area, they must pass two Tree Sentinels guarding the way. The Tree Sentinel, first encountered in Elden Ring, is a notoriously tough boss. At this stage of the game, however, two pose little threat. Players will easily dodge their attacks and quickly take them down. Each Sentinel can also be fought separately, making the encounter a simple battle easily won.
15 Jagged Peak Drake
A Familiar Encounter Players Will Breeze Through
Elden Ring’s massive DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, has introduced several new Dragon encounters to the game. While some feel new, most are similar to the base game bosses. While this isn’t entirely a negative, as they are still fun battles against Dragons, many players may find the encounters too easy.
There are two Jagged Peak Drakes in the game. One is first encountered asleep when entering the Jagged Peak area. The second is found further on, battling another Dragon. Defeating this second Dragon will treat players with Igon’s praise, furthering his questline. Players will likely have little issue with this field boss, as the other Dragon continues to attack the Drake. Players will easily find victory, as the moveset is virtually the same as previous lesser Dragons, barring its additional lightning attack.
16 Red Wolf Of Radagon
A Memorable Encounter Easily Overcome
- Location: Raya Lucaria Academy
- Drops: 14,000 Runes, Memory Stone
- HP: 2,204
Midway through the Academy of Raya Lucaria can the Red Wolf of Radagon be found. This is another boss fight that is unique at this point in a playthrough, but other versions of the enemy can be found later on in the game, too.
Set within a lecture hall in the legacy dungeon, the battle is fast and fun, but it ends far too quickly. The fight is also reminiscent of the Great Grey Wolf Sif boss in the first Dark Souls game, which lends a perfect touch of nostalgia to the encounter for fans of soulslike experiences.
17 Chief Bloodfiend
An Easily Missed Mini-boss
Located at the end of Rivermouth Cave, Chief Bloodfiend is a large and aggressive version of the commonly found Bloodfiend enemies. Bloodfiends are found throughout Shadow of the Erdtree and are worshipers of the outer god, The Formless Mother.
Chief Bloodfiend attacks mainly with wide swings, slams, and bloodflame magic. While its moves can deal reasonable damage, its attacks are well-telegraphed and players will have little trouble beating the boss within one or two tries. While the boss isn’t much of a challenge, the dank, blood-filled arena is a fitting backdrop for this fun side battle.
18 Commander O’Neil
Using Torrent Ensures A Swift Victory
- Location: Swamp Of Aeonia
- Drops: 12,000 Runes, Commander’s Standard Unalloyed Gold Needle
- HP: 9,210
Deep within the infected swamps of Caelid, players will find Commander O’Neil. This boss fight is needed to progress the Millicent storyline. Unfortunately, the unique and unsettling backdrop of the encounter doesn’t carry over to the fight itself and is one of the more forgettable boss battles in the game.
Commander O’Neil can be easily defeated when using Torrent, giving players little in the way of challenge. A tougher version of this boss, Commander Niall, can be found in Castle Sol in the Mountain Tops of the Giants area, and defeating him is sure to remind players of how easy it is to beat Commander O’Neil.
19 Ancestor Spirit
A Powerful Atmospheric Battle
Elden Ring is a game full of surprises, and one of the most stunning is revealed when using the lift to get down to the Siofra River area. After lighting all the pillars in this underground level, players are treated to a stunning boss fight.
The Ancestor Spiritboss is an easy fight to overcome, offering barely a challenge even to new players, but its beautiful design and eerie atmosphere make it a must for any playthrough of the game. The Regal Ancestor Spirit found in Nokron, Eternal City, is an equally memorable boss fight that only provides a little more challenge.
20 Mimic Tear
Fighting Yourself Has Never Been Easier
- Location: Nokron, Eternal City
- Drops: 10,000 Runes
- HP: 19,536
Found after entering Nokron, Eternal City, the Mimic Tear is one of the easiest unique fights in the game. Fighting the player’s own character should be more of a challenge, but unfortunately, the mimic rarely compares to the real thing.
Encountered partway through the level, the Mimic Tear is almost a forgettable fight but acts as a prelude to finding one of the best items in the entire game, the Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes. Ironically, the Mimic Tear Spirit Summon is one of the strongest in all of Elden Ring, often turning even difficult endgame bosses into easy wins.
