You might do well to come back to this article in two days. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is not – and I must point out, it isn't—confirmed to be formally revealed at the Summer Game Fest showcase event this Friday, but chances are pretty damn good that it will be. Rebirth first hit there in 2023, and with everything that series director Naoki Hamaguchi has been saying all over the internet about the upcoming finale, I really feel like it's about time the lid was lifted.
No wonder fans are in a tizzy as they post last minute predictions in the caption…
Forum bets, serious business
This ResetEra thread isn't the only place on the internet abuzz with headline speculation this week, but it's unique in that its creator, LaytonWright, has struck a deal with the gaming forum's community administration. Whoever gets it right will receive an otherwise unobtainable profile banner: “Knights of the Wheel.”
Now my own banner is Era “Video Games Journalist”. With a nice little “Verified” sticker. I don't know that I would necessarily want to trade it! But maybe! I definitely don't know the subtitle of FF7 Remake Part 3, regardless. But it was fun to see what people chose.
Topping the list here, as in the overall trilogy-capper speculation thread, is “Final Fantasy 7 Return.” Quoting the first person to mention it, a user with the nickname The Unsent, “Final Fantasy 7 Return, like Return to The Planet, feels like a given to me.” Given the plot implications, not to mention there's a pretty good chance we'll be able to traverse the entire planet… I can see it. Many nods of agreement followed. Enough, in fact, that there would be a decent number of “Knights of the Wheel” if it came to that.
Others stick with “Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.” Which is the choice most fans tend to make they are not aware The developers' publicly expressed outrage that they chose this subtitle for Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion four years ago. Since they said it outright means it's off the table, there's pretty good reason to assume that's the long and short of it – but never say never, as some are banking on Reunion even though they know full well what was said.
“Final Fantasy 7 Reclaim” has quite a few votes. Revive, Revival and Requiem also make a real dent. (By the way, my personal guess is actually Revival.) Reprise, Redemption, Recall, Remembrance, Revelation, Reunite, Returns, Relive, Reverse, Revenge, Renaissance, Reborn, Reunification, Retold, Renew, Recall, Rejoin, Resolve, and Retribution, all in a deeply say this sentence, without a to all the last way to say a no way.
Can you imagine the third part not actually starting with “Re-“?
It's worth noting that LaytonWright is also running a secondary contest where everyone is struggling with the release date of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. Get it right (somehow) and you'll grab the “One Winged Angel” profile banner instead. Somehow get them right and I don't even know what happens to you, but you should probably play the lottery.
