Major spoilers ahead God of War (2018) a God of War Ragnarok.
God of War Laufey is scheduled for release next year and I couldn't be more excited. Unlike God of War Ragnarokwhich is basically just “Chapter 2”. God of War 2018, God of War Laufey It seems to be much more distinct and introduces not only a new protagonist, but a whole new cast of characters and even gods from other mythologies. in addition God of War Laufey promises to shed light on the many dark secrets left behind Ragnarokincluding, potentially, Atreus' true parentage.
Bombastic finale of 2018 God of War reveals that Kratos' son Atreus was originally supposed to be named Loki, and that his mother, who up until this point had been referred to as Faye, was actually a Jotnar named Laufey. Anyone with even a passing knowledge of Norse mythology (which is probably most people now thanks to Marvel) knows that Loki is a trickster god, the son of Laufey and Farbauti, and sometimes the adopted son of Odin. He is also often portrayed as a villain, casting doubt on Atreus' future virtue. However, things are unlikely to be as simple as a predictable key to evil if God of War Ragnarok is at all indicative of upcoming posts.

Every God confirmed to be Laufey in God of War
In God of War Laufey, several gods are expected to appear and face off against Faye, and here are all who are on the list so far.
How the Loki Twist Affects God of War
When I first played God of War RagnarokI was a bit disappointed with Atreus' Loki route. Characters like Odin and Angrboda refer to him as Loki, and there are some parallels to the Loki myth of the North (like shape-shifting abilities), but no single major twist related to Atreus' alter ego. But after some time, the narrative plans of Santa Monica Studios became clearer: the studio is building its own version of Norse mythology God of Warrather than adapting existing renditions or subverting them outright.
Who is that character?

It's helpful to remember how Loki's twist unfolds. At the end God of War 2018, after scattering Laufey's ashes in Jotunheim, Atreus and Kratos come across a mural painted by Faye and her kin, the Jotnar, who have the power of foresight. The mural reveals that Faye predicted Kratos' arrival in the Nordic realms and the birth of Atreus, among other things. But since Jotnar could not find out their names, they were called Farbauti and Loki.
Farbauti roughly translates to “dangerous attacker”, which might explain why Jotnar gave Kratos his name – quite fitting. Loki's etymology is less clear, although some researchers believe that the name comes from the Germanic root luk, which prefixes words related to nooses, nets, and locks.
The reveal of Loki's name comes as a shock to the players, but not necessarily to Kratos and Atreus. To them, “Loki” is just another Nordic-sounding name that lacks any real meaning. This is why Atreus follows the same path as Loki God of War Ragnarokbut with certain twists.
For example, the wolf Fenrir is Loki's child in Norse myth, and while most stories present this as a literal father-son relationship, God of War Ragnarok he makes it symbolic because Fenrir is basically Atreus' “fur child”. Similarly, he is not directly adopted by Odin, but is taken under his wing, with the All-Father fulfilling a more vague patriarchal role. We can think of God of War series as an alternative interpretation of Norwegian tradition, its creative liberties are much less dramatic than it first appears. It is different, but in the same way that a theologian's wild theory might be.
God of War Laufey could further complicate Loki's journey
God of War Ragnarok it's about breaking the chains of fate. According to the Jotunheim mural mentioned above, Kratos was supposed to die during Ragnarok, but apparently that didn't happen – Kratos and Atreus made their own destiny. But most of Jotnar's other visions actually came true. We assume that their visions related to Atreus ended with Ragnarok, but it could be that Laufey saw further into her son's future or into an alternate reality, different conclusions to past or upcoming events.
in both cases God of War Laufey would provide extra insight into Atreus, specifically through his mother's eyes. That's an important difference: we've seen a lot of Atreus' character development so far, but always through the Kratos filter. When Atreus loses control of his temper, it is assumed to be a trait inherited from Kratos, for example. This is the foundationce of God of War 2018, in which the story hinges on the growing bond between Atreus and his father, and by extension, his Greek side.
It is possible that Laufey saw deeper into her son's future or into an alternate reality, different conclusions to past or upcoming events.
on the contrary God of War Laufey he could better look at Atreus through his mother's eyes – through his Nordic “Loki” side. We could get more information about the name Loki itself, sure, but also more details about Atreus' life as Loki. For example, maybe Faye could have visions of Atreus' original fate, showing a version of the future where Kratos dies and Atreus actually becomes the adopted son of Odin. Perhaps Faye could experience a very natural fear of her son turning to the dark side.
This is not talking about a loosely defined Everywhen. Laufey has already seen Kratos, which represents the possibility of a vision manifesting in this realm. So many God of War revolves around fate and destiny, both of which are closely related to Faye, who has the power to reveal the future. As such, it wouldn't be out of place for Faye to experience some version of Loki, good or bad, in Everywhen, further dissecting the character's twists and turns.
