The launch of Hades 2 1.0 finally revealed the true ending of the game, which I won't spoil here. Similar to the first title, Melinoe needs to complete several runs through the underworld and the surface path to see the final ending and rid the world of the time tyrant Chronos. Unfortunately, this true ending did not live up to fans' expectations.
With the amount of grinding that was required on two separate fronts, players were expecting a stunning conclusion that the game didn't really deliver. A few plots were also left unresolved, like Hypnos' story. To remedy this lack of a satisfying ending, Supergiant changed things up in its first patch after the game's full launch.
Hades 2 Patch 1 changes the actual ending
The patch notes for the update reveal several changes and balances to blessings and boons, but the notable change is likely a revised version of the actual ending. Supergiant isn't shy about changing it up after Hades 2 received backlash for its true ending, and they've also added a feature that lets you experience it without having to toil again.
“Added new events in preparation for and some after the True Ending,” the patch notes say. “As part of this, we've increased the number of required Underworld wipes and added and edited parts of the main True Ending scenes before the end credits. Note: The vast majority of changes are to the Underworld path; the Surface path is mostly unchanged.”
The update also introduces a new cauldron incantation that allows you to return to an earlier point in the story and experience new changes to the true ending along with additional interactions. The change is not only to the ending cinematic, but also to several previous interactions to make them more enjoyable.
While Supergiant is known for constantly improving their games, changing the entire actual ending after fan feedback is a massive decision that was greatly appreciated. Fans on Reddit welcomed the update, especially after feeling a little burned by the previous version. You can be sure that the number of Hades 2 players will increase after this.
The new true ending is only available as a preview for now, so you can expect more improvements in… time (heh).
