Every party member, not just the main hero, can equip any archetype, giving players a lot of freedom in how they build their party. Metaphor: ReFantazio. Each archetype can be individually buffed, giving the archetype new skills or passives to work with in combat.

While this seems like it would limit the overall build of each character, Skill Inheritance allows players to put almost any skill on any archetype, even if that archetype wouldn't normally be learned. Skill inheritance is done at the Academy and is the second option from the top when you talk to More. From there, you'll need to choose which character and which of their archetypes you want to inherit the skill from. An an inherited skill takes up an additional slotand does not change or get rid of any of the usual skills that the Archetype knows or already knows.

After selecting the archetype you wish to inherit a skill from, you'll be presented with a list of skills to choose from, each costing a different amount of MAG to inherit depending on the skill's power.

Passive skills usually cost the most, but they can still be inherited.

The list of skills you can choose from is all of them additional skills learned by any other archetype from the same character. This further incentivizes players to try out or at least level up other archetypes, as sometimes it can be worth it to level up an archetype just to get one skill to inherit later.

Inherited skills can be changed at any time in the Academy.
Skills only need to be purchased once, even if they are unequipped and re-equipped later.

The number of skills that can be inherited per archetype is determined by the equipped archetype. As your level with this follower increases, every few ranks will reward another Skill Inheritance slot for the archetypes of that tree. Each archetype starts with one Skill Inheritance slot and can work its way up to four before the follower is exhausted. This limits some archetypes more than others, as some followers are tied to story progression like the Gunner, while others can be multi-mined or leveled up very early in the game.
