June 9th will become a historic day in Destiny 2

It's been a scary couple of weeks Fate 2 fans after learning that Bungie will end ongoing development on the game once the final update launches on June 9, 2026. For the first time in more than ten years, the world Fate effectively stops, despite both Fate 2 and its predecessor remains playable in maintenance mode. That alone makes the June 9th update historic, but there are even more reasons why this date will likely be one of the biggest days in the history of the series.

First off, the latest patch titled “Monument of Triumph” already sounds like the most extensive update the game has ever received. Fate 2 the team not only dripped patch notes, but also confirmed how tedious the writing is. Second, the game's community has been rallying since the announcement of its impending end, to the point that many who previously left for one reason or another have pledged to return when Monument of Triumph goes live. In other words, June 9 is supposed to be the date that Fate 2 will be remembered by fans and perhaps the gaming industry in general for a long time to come.

Farewell to fate 2

Saying goodbye to Destiny 2 is the hardest thing I'll ever do in gaming

Saying goodbye to Destiny 2 hurts because I'm leaving behind not just a game, but a version of my life that I can never go back to.

Destiny 2's latest update sounds massive

Monument of Triumph may not be the absolute biggest update Fate 2 ever received, but may very well be the most extensive at the systemic level of quality of life. This is largely due to the fact that this will be the game's last evolution patch with a live service, so Bungie needs to make sure it's meaty enough to keep the game unlimited and fun for those who plan to stick around. Based on what the developer has shared so far in various developer insights, current and returning players have a lot to look forward to, and the general sentiment around the update seems to be that Fate 2 he needed all along.

Destiny 2 Forsaken campaign

Because so many improvements are being made Fate 2 Jun 9 Bungie isn't able to fit everything into one easy-to-read blog post on their website, so at the time of this writing they've expanded these details into five separate, rather long posts. Each post varies in length, but some have reached over 8,000 words, if that says anything about how significant Fate 2The Monument of Triumph update will.

Monument of Triumph may not be the absolute biggest update Fate 2 ever received, but may very well be the most extensive at the systemic level of quality of life.

What's more, Bungie recently confirmed this via a post on the official website Fate 2 team X reports that the patch notes for the update are at least 71 pages and 17,000 words long. While the lengthy patch notes don't automatically play a role in the update, they do show how much Bungie is trying to cover Monument of Triumph. Between the Director, Portal, Target Bounties, Pantheon, SRL, Gambit Ops, Exotic Catalysts, Artifact 2.0, Ability Changes, Weapon Tuning, and Monument Bounties, June 9th is looking more and more like Bungie's last big attempt to touch almost every corner of the world. Fate 2 before the game settles into its older era.

However, beyond the size of Monument of Triumph and the impact it will have on the game structurally, the number of players who agree to show up on June 9th to support Fate 2. If the number of players reached or even surpassed its all-time high, it would certainly make history. But at the very least, the game is likely to see one of the biggest player jumps since its launch in 2017, especially in light of Fate 2 content creators like Aztecross often encourage their followers to check in alongside them on the day.

It is worth noting that the following estimates are based on Fate 2The Steam player is counted by itself and does not take into account the various other platforms.

Even now, the game is seeing an increase in players, with its 24-hour peak on Steam at the time of writing being over 26,000 players, according to SteamDB. That might not seem like a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's actually the most players the game has seen online at one time since January, just a month after that. Fate 2'with Star WarsThe Renegades themed expansion has been released. It's normal to see an influx of players after a big update or expansion launches, even if it tapers off after a month or so, but it's something else entirely when so many players sign up before a big update like Monument of Triumph.

Destiny 2 Red War Campaign

The safest expectation is that the Monument of Triumph is pushing Fate 2 well past its recent 24-hour Steam peak and potentially above Renegades' December 2025 peak of roughly 70,000 players. If the community rally gathers enough momentum, it wouldn't be shocking to see the game hit the 100,000 player mark on Steam, which would push June 9 beyond The Edge of Fate's launch. Fate 2's biggest platforming moment since The Final Shape. Reaching the game's all-time peak on Steam with over 316,000 players is still a much taller order, as that number came during Lightfall's release when Fate 2 he was in a completely different place. Even so, the Monument of Triumph does not have to break this record to make history. If enough passed guardians return for one final login, June 9th could still happen Fate 2the last great show of force.

It's normal to see an influx of players after a big update or expansion launches, even if it tapers off after a month or so, but it's something else entirely when so many players sign up before a big update like Monument of Triumph.

Whatever happens on June 9, it's hard to imagine Monument of Triumph feeling like anything else Fate 2 update. For some players, this will be a reason to come back and see what Bungie has changed. For others, it will be a chance to stand in a tower, do one more activity with old friends, or simply be there as the game moves on to its next stage of life. Fate 2 may be nearing the end of its journey to live ministry, but June 9 could prove that its community still has one last moment left.
