CI Games upcoming updates Lords of the Fallen 2 have been slow since the game's reveal last year; however, the development team revealed a blueprint of what the game's female armor sets would look like, sparking some controversy. Lords of the Fallen 2 is a sequel to 2023 Lords of the Fallenwhich itself is a reboot of the 2014 game of the same name, but developed by a new studio.
Restart in 2023 Lords of the Fallen was a fairly well-received entry into the ever-expanding soulslike genre, but unfortunately it launched with several bugs and balance issues, all of which were ironed out in the months and years that followed, with the game only getting updates until December 2025. That seems like a fairly quick time frame to release a sequel, with CI Games currently having all kinds of development on board. Lords of the Fallen 2which was revealed at GamesCom 2025 and is due out later this year. However, CI Games has been the subject of controversy in recent months. Marek Tyminski, CEO of the Polish developer studio, has noted several times that it is anti-politically correct, and has even publicly criticized former CI Games developers on social media. As Lords of the Fallen 2 continues to develop, Tyminski also commented on the upcoming soulslike with “attractive female characters”, which also caused a lot of controversy.

Lords of the Fallen 2 officially revealed at Gamescom
The 2023 sequel to the popular action-adventure title Lords of the Fallen is revealed during Gamescom's Opening Night Live presentation.
Lords of the Fallen 2 female armor sets are revealed to mixed reviews
Now, CI Games is showing what “attractive female characters” means via a sponsored YouTube video by TheBackgroundNPC, featuring key art from Lords of the Fallen 2 in collaboration with the studio. The 21-minute video is more or less a treatise on why TheBackgroundNPC feels that western female character designs are actually bad for femininity, and how risque character designs in the upcoming soulslike fans really want. Official Lords of the Fallen The X account even released a promotion for the five sets of female armor that TheBackgroundNPC introduced, stating that they are wild, beautiful and provocative female armor designs that players want.

Fan reaction to the sponsored video and the five female armor designs was mixed, to say the least. Users across X and Reddit were quick to scoff Lords of the Fallen 2'Female armor sets stating that these pieces of armor are not only impractical, but also lost too much in the fan service aspect. Meanwhile on Lords of the Fallen subreddit, CI Games developers have been uploading videos of actual in-game female armor sets that look much more practical and less revealing. These more modest, elaborate female armors are much better received than what has been posted on X and YouTube. Additionally, one developer stated this Lords of the Fallen 2 will feature over 100 armor sets with extensive customization options.
CI Games states that these pieces of armor were made with the fans in mind, but that also leaves the question of how much of a say the fans should really have in the development of the game. 2023 Lords of the Fallen became an excellent game after factoring in tons of player feedback to polish it over months and years, but that's fundamentally different from having a say in the aesthetic choices of a video game. CI Games currently seems content to outsource the creative vision Lords of the Fallen 2 to internet fans and sponsored YouTubers. Whether that strategy translates into a strong game with one cohesive vision remains to be seen.
