This allowed the highly rated Switch game to surpass eight million physical sales in the country and reach an exact total of 8,008,343 copies sold. Bolstered by these numbers, New Horizons also dethroned Pokemon: Red/Green as the best-selling physical game ever in Japan according to multiple sources. The previous record, held by the 1996 Game Boy title, was said to be 7.93 million physical units sold.
