Growing Insight is an integral part Infinity Nikki. Without it, you won't be able to access the unique materials needed to create late-game outfit sketches. If you want to improve your abilities and unlock some new outfits, you'll want to earn Insight points for your specific ability.

The four main abilities that can be upgraded in Heart of Infinity are Fishing, Gathering, Animal Care, and Bug Catching. Knowing which bugs to catch and which to not bother with will help you not waste precious time!
Overview of error catching statistics
Every time you catch a bug or various insects in the game, you get Insight Catching Bug. With enough insight you can get new sketches for parts of clothing related to this ability. You will also be able to upgrade an ability, allowing you to gain essence from mistakes.
You can see how much Bug-Catching Insight you have by opening it Heart of Infinity and choosing one of the Traits in the Bug Catching skill tree. When you hover over a perk, your total stats will appear in the top right corner of the screen next to your currency.
Unlocking the ability to glean essence from bugs is critical to crafting mid-to-late game clothing items. Once you reach a certain point in the game, most Sketches require essence from bugs, fish, or animals.
The best bugs to catch to gain insight
Players need to stack up 1000 Insights per ability (bug catching, fishing, etc.) to reach the point of unlocking the essence collection. A good way to get Insight points is to only catch higher level insects. The rarer the insect, the more revealing each catch will be.
Another great way to quickly rack up a ton of Insight is by using The realm of nutrition on any warp tower. This is useful when you reach daily collection limit for manually collecting Bug-Catching Insight.
