This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.
One piece is the world's best-selling manga of all time and has maintained this for a long time. Od's magnum opus has been running for over 28 years now, with no sign of slowing down anytime soon, even though the Final Saga has already kicked off. The focus of this series is of course the pirates. without them One piece it wouldn't be what it is now.
Despite all of this, Oda revealed that he has no plans for the One Big Straw Hat, and that member is Nefertari Vivi, Princess of Arabasta. At first, Oda didn't have any big plans for her and made a lot of decisions about her on the spot, which caught the attention of many fans..
Oda will not make Vivi Arabast a princess
Vivi became a princess after drawing her hair
One piece fans may think that Oda always wanted Vivi to be a princess, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Nefertari Vivi, while not currently traveling with the Straw Pirates, is in every sense part of their crew. She is considered a part of the team by Oda and fans alike, and many believe she will eventually take her rightful place during the Final Saga.
All that aside, Vivi was almost never a relevant characterwhich is quite shocking. Vivi was only supposed to be an agent of baroque worksprobably later forgotten. But Oda started imagining a different vision for her once he drew her with her hair down. He said it made her look like a princess. This is how the Arabasta arch was created.
Vivi was introduced as a Baroque Works agent, but I had no idea about her setup. When I drew her with her hair down, she looked like a princess. What would happen if she was the princess of Alabasta? So I started thinking about the Alabasta arc. — Eiichiro Oda
The choice Oda made back then had a huge impact on the story, especially in the Final Saga, where Vivi and the Nefertari family are incredibly important to the plotespecially when it comes to Ima and world government.
Oda has many of the one-piece elements pre-planned, some created on site
Along with Vivi, a supernova was also decided on the spot
Many One Piece fans praise Oda for his foreshadowing skills and setting up future events in the series. While praise is certainly due, Oda also showed how well he can improvise on the spot.
One big example is the character Vivi, but it doesn't stop there. Supernovas, which became quite important to One Piece after the time skip, were Oda's last minute work, and a great one at that. Hopefully, Oda continues to make exciting last-minute inclusions in a story that also moves forward.
