It's hard to be a Persona fan. The entire time I've been working at TheGamer, I've had an article condemning “Persona 6 Revealed” ready to publish on the fateful day it actually happens. However, showcases have come and gone and this article remains unused.
It's been almost exactly 10 years since Persona 5 launched in September 2016, and while there have been some minor rumblings surrounding Persona 6, nothing has materialized yet.
Now it looks like that wait could be a lot longer (and my article will go unused), as today Sega released its latest financial news, and while it mentions upcoming games like Stranger Than Heaven, there's a notable absence of any mention of Persona 6.
Persona 6 is completely absent from Sega's latest news
More time passed between Persona 5 and the reveal of Persona 6 than any other major game in the franchise. There were three years between Persona and Persona 2, seven years between Persona 2 and Persona 3, only two between Persona 3 and 4, and eight years between Persona 4 and Persona 5.
In fact, we've had a total of nine Persona games since the release of Persona 5. We have the Persona 3 spin-off (Dancing in Moonlight), the Persona 3 remake, the reveal of the Persona 4 remake, five Persona 5 spin-offs (Dancing in the Starlight, Persona Q2: Labyrinth of New Cinema, Strikers, Tactica, and The Phantom X) and Persona 5 and the definitive Persona edition (RoFazi). The wait for Persona 6 is brutal and may still take a while.
Sega's Q4 investor presentation was released today, giving us a strong look at what the company is cooking up. It has revealed that it is scaling back its live service plans and teasing upcoming Sega titles. These include Stranger than Heaven, Total War: Warhammer 40,000, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. Persona 4 Revival even gets a mention. You know what doesn't, though? Persona 6 or any “unannounced Persona title”.
Of course, it could be missing because Sega and Atlus want the reveal to be a complete surprise. However, it's not uncommon for these reports to refer to “unannounced” titles, and Sega certainly isn't doing that. In fact, there are no references to any unannounced titles at all.
Despite this, however, there is still reason to believe. Late last year, Persona 6 was first teased, and in December Persona studio head Kazuhisa Wada revealed that he wants to announce “future development” of the series in 2026. This comes after Wada told fans to “stay tuned” in mid-2025.
It's seriously mixed news from Sega, Atlus and Wada, but I'll continue to hold out hope that news isn't too far off. Summer Game Fest is next month and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
