Pikachu appears to have coined several special names for Ash and his companions, with the phrases “Pikapi”, “Pikachu-Pi”, “Pikaka”, and “Pika-Chu” referring to Ash, Misty, Dawn, and Brock, respectively, though this last name also seems to function as Pikachu's way of addressing Axew. Similarly, he also invented some special nicknames for some of his Pokémon friends, such as “PikakaPika” for Bulbasaur, “PiPiPi” for Togepi, or “PikaPika”, which refer to any number of other Pokémon, but most often refer to Squirtle. Fans should also be prepared for trouble when they hear him say “PiPi-kachu” because that probably means Team Rocket is on the scene.

Like many shonen anime heroes, Pikachu seems to have developed a habit of calling out the names of his moves in Pokemon anime series and movies. This includes the iconic slow yelling of his full name during a Thunderbolt attack and using “Pika-Pika-Pika-Pika-Pika-Pika, Chuuu Pii!” when using the Electro Ball. Additionally, Ash's Pikachu has developed some situation-specific Pika-speaking words, such as saying “Pi-kaPika” when saying goodbye or “Pika-Pikachu” when introducing someone.
