Pokemon GO adventure effects need to be released in a big way

Pokemon Go has remained one of the most popular mobile games on the market today. Riding on the hype during its first release in summer 2016, Pokemon Go has maintained a dedicated player base that continues to explore all that the new game has to offer. Developer Niantic also helped the game grow by adding a number of new features and content that were not originally available during the game's launch period, making it the definitive Pokemon experience.

One notable feature that was added to the game after its launch was the Adventure Effect feature in Pokemon battles. These effects allow Pokemon to receive temporary buffs and bonuses based on what attacks they use in battles. While this is a great feature, it feels like a feature that could use some tweaking and Niantic could benefit from making some changes and additions to the mechanics.

Pokemon GO adventure effects could offer more benefits

Pokemon GO shouldn't limit adventure effects to legendary Pokemon

Adventure Effects are currently in Pokemon Go they are only available to certain legendary pokemon. The only Pokemon that benefit from this feature are the Origin Formes of Dialga and Palkia, along with Necrozma's Dusk Mane and Dark Wing versions. So, aside from the limited selection of Pokémon that have adventure effects, all three are among the most powerful and hardest-to-obtain creatures in the game.

It's great that these effects are available for Legendary Pokemon, because allowing these ultra-powerful Pokemon to become even more deadly makes them more enjoyable to play with. With that being said, it's especially frustrating that such a unique mechanic is limited to an incredibly small number of Pokemon, specifically a trio of Pokemon that are incredibly rare and hard to catch. This seems to be a mechanic that can be used for more than just the three unique pets.

Adventure effects could be scaled down in Pokemon GO

If Niantic wanted to create a greater variety of Pokemon to give Adventure Effects to, the team could start by letting them use fully evolved Starter Pokemon and pseudo-Legendary Pokemon. It's understandable that not every Pokémon could use them – especially Pokémon that are perceived as “weaker” – but Adventure Effects clearly offer a greater benefit to strong Mons. So if Niantic were to add Adventure Effects for Pokémon beyond the “Legendary” threshold, it would cast a wider net and allow more players to benefit.

Of course, if you're worried that the Adventure Effects are too strong, Niantic could offer a scaled-down version of them for non-legendary Pokémon. Whether it's by reducing the benefits of each Pokémon's effects or offering similar buffs for a shorter duration, Niantic could reduce Adventure Effects so that more creatures can get them. This would help create much more gameplay variation than is currently offered Pokemon Go.

Legendary Pokémon or not, adventure effects need more

Even if Niantic wants to stick with offering Adventure Effects for Legendary Pokemon, there should still be a larger number of Legendaries with these effects. The Adventure Effects menu for Dialga and Palkia was appropriate given that the feature was introduced during the Sinnoh event, but since then these buffs have been the only ones to get two forms of the same Pokémon. While Adventure Effects will remain focused on “hardcore” players, Niantic could still offer a lot more variation if they decide to expand it.

Pokemon Go's Adventure Effects are an interesting part of the game, but Niantic could definitely add more to them in the future. More Pokémon would help create a more varied game, and the ability to offer adventure effects to non-legendary Pokémon opens up the feature to multiplayer. Niantic can push this gaming enthusiast and expand it even further to make it a more playable experience.
