Key things
- Physical copies of Metaphor: ReFantazio reach players almost a week before the game's official launch.
- That said, you might want to start avoiding social media because spoilers will probably start hitting your timeline in the next few days.
- Metaphor: ReFantazio is the latest to see physical copies released early, with FF7 Rebirth, Astro Bot and Silent Hill 2 suffering the same fate.
Metaphor: ReFantazio may only be days away, but recent reviews of the title have made that wait seem like an age. It's exciting to think that we'll soon be able to play a new game from the developers of modern Persona games, but you might want to start locking down your social networks if you're a frequent user of the Persona/Metaphor community.
That's because it looks like physical copies of Metaphor: ReFantazio are making their way into players' hands, meaning spoilers will soon be released online whether we want them to or not. While the case itself wasn't shared, a Reddit user named Asberinfi shared an image of the PS5 drive for Metaphor: ReFantazio along with the caption “I'll leave this here.”
Thankfully, they don't seem to have shared any footage of the game yet, but it's highly unlikely that Asberinfi will be the only person to receive their copy early. Also, with the game so close to launch, it's unlikely that Atlus will put the effort and resources into suppressing any leaks that occur, so it might be worth avoiding social media until you get your hands on it.
Metaphor: ReFantazio isn't the only game that happened this year. Big retailers can often randomly send out games to players a little early, though it takes a whole week to crack. PlayStation hit it twice in 2024, with physical copies of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Astro Bot being released a bit earlier, while Silent Hill fans were also able to get Silent Hill 2 Remake a week before the game's Early Access launch.
Fortunately, no harm really came of it, as all of these games are excellent, surprisingly for Silent Hill 2, and Metaphor: ReFantazio looks to be no exception. Reviews for this title came out earlier today and in the early stages they gave it a very impressive score of 94 on OpenCritic, matching what Persona 5 has. We also know that Metaphor will share the length of Persona 5 as well, so it's time to say goodbye to your friends and families as you work your way through this absolute unit video game.
