Santa Monica confirms more Kratos stories are coming

While God of War Laufey will focus on Faye, series creative director Cory Barlog reassured fans by stating that Kratos will still be the focus of the future God of War stories. While he will still be present in the upcoming PS5 title, God of War Laufey will be the first game in Sony's successful franchise not to feature Kratos as the main character.

God of War Laufey was officially revealed during the final segment of the June 2nd State of Play broadcast. God of War Laufey had a 22-minute debut that showed fans a glimpse of the game's opening sequences. God of War Laufey will see players controlling Faye, Kratos' deceased wife, as she navigates the gods' afterlife called the Everywhen. Faye will also battle other deities from different mythologies when she learns that the promise she made to Kratos and Atreus before her death may be in danger. God of War Laufey it currently has no release window, although it will be a PS5 exclusive.

God of War developers confirm that Kratos still has a story to tell

Despite early criticism that God of War Laufey After State of Play, the Santa Monica studio assured fans that Kratos will once again be the center of attention in future stories. Sony published an interview between God of War series creative director Cory Barlog and Laufey game director Ariel Lawrence immediately following State of Play. Barlog confirmed this Laufey will be Faye's entire journey through Everywhen, Santa Monica Studio isn't done with Kratos. Barlog said, “Faye is, even though it's a different thing, it's still part of the larger tapestry of what we really want to explore, all these different characters in it. But there will always be Kratos games throughout history.”

Lawrence said as she returned to Santa Monica Studio in 2021 to be a director Laufeyshe admitted her surprise when she learned that it was aimed at Faye and not Kratos. Lawrence said, “I just assumed it would be the next Kratos game, and I'd be telling stories about it for the rest of my life.” Lawrence agreed with Barlog, saying that Santa Monica Studio still has a story to tell about Kratos. Neither Lawrence nor Barlog elaborated further on the future God of War titles that may be released later Laufey.

However, Kratos will still be the main draw of another ongoing project at Santa Monica Studio. A remake of the God of War trilogy is in development for PS5. The upcoming compilation retells Kratos' personal conflict with the Olympians and various monsters from Greek mythology. A remake of the God of War trilogy Kratos' original voice actor TC Carson will also reprise his role.
