Since Star Wars blasted into the stratosphere lightsaber was his typical iconography. At one point or another, every fan has picked up a stick or toy sword and pretended it was Skywalker's lightsaber (or Darth Vader's blade if they're feeling dangerous). When a weapon is so absurdly iconic, Star Wars he naturally experimented with different designs, especially since each lightsaber is meant to be unique to a given Jedi or Sith. This begs the question: what are they? the greatest lightsabers all time?
Taking into account historical significance, uniqueness and sheer cool factor, let's try to identify the sabers that are just the pinnacle Star Wars. We'll cover as many angles and IPs as possible, but won't dive too deep into Legends because that part of the franchise is so overwhelming.
Updated May 4, 2026 by Mark Sammut: Happy Star Wars Day and may the fourth be with you! What's more “Star Wars” than lightsabers? Exactly, nothing. That's why we've updated this article with new images, rewritten text, and two modern entries that have a really cool design.

Ezra Bridger's pistol grip lightsaber
A combination of two iconic weapons
During Star Wars RebelsThe Jedi Order was at one of its lowest points and needed to adapt to the times or risk being completely destroyed. Ezra Bridger's blaster and lightsaber represent this turbulent time period as it is a design that would not have been allowed when the council was reviewing it.

Every Star Wars Game Currently in Development (April 2026)
There are many Star Wars games currently in the works, and this is a complete list of each project and its genres.
Reflecting its user's past, this lightsaber was essentially scrapped from spare parts, showing both Ezra's creativity and willingness to think outside the box. Although he eventually switched to a more traditional lightsaber as he became more confident, Ezra greatly benefited from the versatility offered by his original weapon.

Tera Sinube Wand Lightsaber
Practical and deadly
Maybe “cool” isn't the right adjective to describe the versatile Tera Sinube lightsaber, but it is unique and tailor-made to fit the needs of a Jedi Master. For the most part, Sinube uses this item as a tool to help him get around, keeping the saber out of sight and out of mind.
Should the situation become dire and call the skilled Jedi into action, all he has to do is remove the hilt from his collar to unleash his Kyber Crystal Blade. The staff can lull enemies into a false sense of security as Sinube appears vulnerable, and the Jedi can also fight with a lightsaber and wand.

Yoda's lightsaber proves that size doesn't matter
It's what you do with it that counts
The best lightsaber designs in Star Wars it doesn't have to be the biggest because Yoda's lightsaber fits perfectly in his small hands. What is most interesting about Yoda's lightsaber is the fact that it is more of a shoto blade, as the hilt and blade are far smaller than the average lightsaber.

Star Wars: 7 Things You Didn't Know About Yoda
Jedi Master Yoda has become a major part of the Star Wars Universe, but there are many things fans don't know about Yoda.
Yoda proves once again, despite appearances, that size does not matter and that the Force is a Jedi's greatest ally. Yoda has one of the coolest lightsabers Star Warsand the fact that it was seen once more in Boba Fett book as a potential gift for Groga.

Dooku's curved lightsaber
Say what you will, the Prequels mostly had great lightsabers
Dooku served as a puppet for the Clone Wars and established himself as a powerful Sith Lord and savvy politician during the conflict. He may have been nothing more than a drag on Palpatine, but Dooku's fighting prowess showed in every battle he appeared in.
Dooku's curved lightsaber stood out from most other Jedi during his time with the Order. Aside from its unique design, Dooku's saber was one that allowed him to better utilize his fighting style. When he joined the Sith, Dooku kept the saber, exchanging its Kyber crystal for a much more suitable red one.

Obi-Wan Kenobi's thin-necked lightsaber
Simple but powerful design
Obi-Wan Kenobi has been through quite a bit of trauma over the years, and his lightsaber has been there for it all. It is somewhat unique compared to other lightsabers due to its thin neck design. This elegant weapon perfectly matches the personality of someone with Obi-Wan's talent and bravado.
It's definitely one of the coolest lightsaber hilts out there Star Warsnot to mention one of the most iconic. Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber even inspired Luke Skywalker further and added another to the best. Star Wars Lightsabers.

Revan's versatile lightsaber
Lightsabers that reflect Revan's complex story
WITH Knights of the Old Republic Revan's Lightsaber could very well make a comeback in the future, as it's an all-time great game that could eventually see a remake. Revan had a massive presence in the old EU, but has yet to gain a similar foothold in the current canon. The remake could very well change from the original, so fans may have something completely different in mind when they think of Revan's saber in the future.
Revan used a variety of lightsabers, most notably the red one he used during his time as a Sith, and the purple one after his redemption. However, he occasionally uses dual controls, especially in games like Old RepublicThe latter was used by Revan on his travels in the EU canon. Except for hope KOTOR remake, Revan will be in the upcoming Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, where most of the above images come from.

Mace Wind's lightsaber with a purple blade
Jedi don't have to stick with blue or green sabers
During the original trilogy and A hidden threatThe Jedi stuck to blue and green lightsabers, even though there weren't many members running around during that time. Still, a change was necessary for the prequel trilogy, which came in the form of Windu's purple-bladed lightsaber in 2002. Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Windu's unique electrum-plated amethyst lightsaber set him apart from the rest of the Jedi Council, and may be the main reason why Windu (and Samuel L. Jackson, of course) is somewhat fondly looked upon these days.

Do you like The Prequels? You will love these Star Wars games
The prequels may be controversial, but even their biggest detractors have to admit that these games are the pinnacle of Star Wars content.
Visually, Windu's blade looks very similar to Revan's Ransom Saber, so they are really equal in performance. However, the Wind version has more historical significance, so it deserves to be just one spot higher.

Qui-Gon Jinn, simple yet elegant
A subtle lightsaber
Although the hilt of Qui-Gon Jinn's lightsaber may appear somewhat simplistic and bulky, it further demonstrates the detachment the Jedi have from the materialistic world. The lightsaber is a weapon, an elegant means of protection, and Qui-Gon wields it well with mastery and wisdom.
Qui-Gon's lightsaber design may not sell as one of the best looking lightsabers due to its simplicity, but that doesn't stop it from being distinctive. The large red button to turn the blade on immediately catches the eye, as does the realistically sized handle for comfort.

Baylan Skoll's lightsaber is almost a large sword
A large lightsaber? The language doesn't go away, but something is there
As Yoda proved, a lightsaber doesn't have to be big to be deadly…however, bigger can be better in the right hands. Ahsoka not exactly the most popular Star Wars property at all, but it has some great ideas and moments, and Baylan Skoll's fat lightsaber is one of them.
These weapons are historically associated with speed and finesse, but this may not be 100% true for every variant. Baylan often adopts a two-handed stance and uses this heavy blade to overwhelm opponents with sheer force and weight, essentially crafting Star Wars' to take on a claymore. Even the blood orange color is bold, not to mention it looks pretty cool.

Lightwhip Vernestra Rwoh is no longer just a legend
To move away from the traditional form
While we've seen many different hilts, colors, and lengths, 99% of lightsabers are still blades at the end of the day. Vernestra's weapon challenges this, turning the conventional design into a whip that has extraordinary reach for a lightsaber. Originally introduced in the Expanded Universe, the Light Whip became official in Acolyteand it's one of the best things the series has put into canon.

The 20 Best Star Wars Games of All Time, Ranked
In addition to many successful films, the Star Wars series has also seen a number of incredible games that have brought its universe to life.
In addition to being absurdly cool, the lightsaber requires true mastery from its wielder, and Vernestra uses the force to guide her tail (and avoid accidental head-on collisions). It can also take the form of a standard lightsaber, allowing Vernestra to completely catch her opponents by surprise.
