The Lupine is a smart, exciting watch
Length: 17 episodes
Inspired by the legendary gentleman thief Maurice Leblanc, Arsène Lupine, Netflix Lupine stars Omar Sy as Assane Diop, a professional thief who is determined to uncover the powerful billionaire who ruined his father's life. Rather than directly adapting the novels, Lupine reimagines the character in modern day Paris, combining elaborate heists, detective work and a tale of revenge into a stylish 3-part show. Watching the seemingly impossible plans fall into place is as gratifying as the heists themselves. Omar Sy is endlessly charismatic in the lead role, making Assane easy to root for as he manipulates and deceives everyone around him.
Each of Lupine'17 episodes balance suspense with clever misdirection and reward viewers with satisfying twists. The Parisian setting gives the show a distinct identity, and its brisk pace makes it incredibly easy to watch. That's no surprise Lupine has become one of Netflix's most acclaimed thrillers, as few of the streamer's series combine intelligence, humor and suspense as well as it does.
