The best Dragon-type cards in the Pokemon TCG pocket

If there's one thing Pokemon players love, it's Dragons. This exceptionally powerful type has some incredible Pokemon in it, including Rayquaza, Dragapult, and Salamence. With Pokemon TCG Pocket, your options are a bit more limited in what you can choose from when building your deck.

There are currently only three Dragon-type Pokemon cards to choose from, all in the Dragonite evolution line. We take a look at all three cards to see how they stack up against some of the other popular cards in the game, along with a bonus look at the rare artwork you can find.

Dratini – Genetic Apex

Basic Pokemon with big dreams

Let's start with the regular basic pokemon (with one diamond rarity), Dratini. This cute little Pokemon is known as the Dragon Pokemon and has the desire to evolve into one of the most powerful Pokemon in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

At 70 HP, Dratini can withstand a hit or two from any of the stronger Basic Pokemon commonly found in decks, though you'll want to quickly evolve it to Dragonair to keep it safe. Genetic Apex's Dratini only has one attack, Ram, which does 40 damage, which is on the high end of the base Pokemon's attack range. The downside is that it costs two energy, one water and one electricity.

One of the better features of the Dragon cards so far is that they have no weaknesses, at least for the Dratini line in Genetic Apex. This may change as more sets are released, but for now you should be safe from any bonus damage from your opponent's attacks.

Dragonair – Genetic Apex

Win settings

Evolving your Dratini to Dragonair will give you a huge performance boost while also enjoying a nice HP boost. The Stage 1 card comes with 100 HP and a single attack, Tail Smack, that deals a respectable 80 damage to the opponent's Active Pokémon.

Tail Smack only costs one more colorless energy than Dratini's Ram attack, so it doesn't take much to achieve this. If you manage to follow up an attack with Dratini with Dragonair's Tail Smack, you're likely KOing your opponent's Pokemon for a total of 120 damage. Unless your opponent has one of the higher HP EX cards or a higher evolution tier, you're probably looking at a point.

The nice thing about Dritini and Dragonair is that they both only have one colorless energy cost per retreat. You can reduce this cost to zero with the X Speed ​​Trainer card, allowing you to bounce it back to the bench to recover or stack more energy while another Pokémon tanks the active slot.

Dragonite – Genetic Apex

Master the Draco Meteor

Complementing the Dragon-type cards currently available in Pokemon TCG Pocket, Dragonite is an extremely powerful card that has a unique attack. Draco Meteor costs four Energy, one Water, one Electric, and two Colorless, but can deal a total of 200 damage. This damage is randomly split between up to four of your opponent's Pokemon, both active and benched.

One Pokemon can be selected more than once, but generally you'll hit two to three different Pokemon with Draco Meteor. These enemy Pokemon will take 50 damage each time they are selected in this way, dealing a significant amount of damage.

Since Dragonite has 160 HP, you'll probably be able to get in an attack or two, as there aren't many Pokemon that can pull it off with a single attack, even with a Giovanni Supporter card. Although rare, it is entirely possible to get all three points in one attack depending on what your opponent's board looks like.

Dragonite Illustration Rare – Genetic Apex

Give yourself a little twist

Mechanically, there is no difference between the illustration rare drakit and the regular rare dragon, but it looks much better on the battlefield stomping your opponents. The illustration by Pokémon TCG veteran Gemi shows a flying dragon hovering over the ocean with the setting sun behind it, several ships crossing the sea, and a meteor shower overhead.

The big downside to Illustration Rare Dragonite is that it has an incredibly low drop rate in packs, meaning it won't take long to pull one. Creating one isn't an option for most free-to-play players, as it costs 400 pack points, which is 80 packs you'll need to open to get those points.

All of the cards from the Dragonite evolution series and the Dragonite Illustration Rare versions are only found in Mewtwo Genetic Apex decks, so if you want to build a deck around them, you're going to have to draw a lot of decks. get the cards you are looking for.
