Since the service considers “anime” a genre, it can be surprisingly difficult to browse for a specific type of show. To help simplify the process, let's walk you through best romantic anime on netflixincluding classic and modern series.
Updated November 6, 2025 by Mark Sammut: Netflix doesn't have that many anime for Fall 2025, but it does have one show that should hit the spot for people who crave love and laughter. To celebrate Ranma ½ Season 2, we've added the show as a recommendation. Galleries have also been edited for each Netflix romance anime.
Ranma ½
Cult comedy with effective romance
Rumiko Takahashi Ranma ½ is one of the most influential and BEST manga of all time and somehow popularized and subverted the harem genre. The source material got a fantastic adaptation in 1989, but Netflix has a reboot in 2024. Now, Ranma ½ shines primarily as a comedy because all the characters are over the top and hilarious; however, you can also enjoy the show as a silly romance about two tunderes who refuse to admit their feelings for each other. They also get stuck in unwanted harems with suitors who can be pretty aggressive.
Although the original anime holds up well (for the most part), the 2024 reboot is shaping up to be the definitive adaptation. The animation is top notch and the series modernizes a few elements without ever undermining it Ranma ½the main attraction. Since the manga is long over, the new anime can simply focus on covering the source material rather than relying on filler.
For people completely ignorant Ranma ½the story follows Ranma Saotome, a boy who gender-switches to a girl when he is drenched in water. He is destined to marry Akane, but both are very much against the idea.

The last part adds a touch of drama, but Fragrant flower he's mostly happy to let his couple hang out and be cute with each other. They don't really hide their feelings for each other, though they tend to show it in adorably awkward behavior. Some romance anime are packed to the brim with drama, while others, like fragrant flower, they are just sweet and comfortable.
Kimi ni Todoke: From me to you
Classic romance anime
Before 2024, Kimi ni Todoke it was great but also a little disappointing. After a fantastic 2009 season, the anime dropped the sequel, which seemed happy to spin and refused to pull the trigger on the underlying romance until it was too late. Without a sequel, this story felt like it never reached its climax.
Fortunately, in 2024 Kimi ni Todoke returned for its third season, which happened to be a Netflix exclusive. These five episodes represent the romance anime genre at its best, telling relatable and mature stories driven by well-defined characters who are constantly learning about themselves. They cover the highs, lows, and insecurities of love while acting as a coming-of-age character study.
To be clear, newbies should start from the beginning Kimi ni Todoke is never anything less than good.

Blue box
A sports romance anime that is more romance than sports
Premiere in fall 2024, Blue box offers a rare mix of romance and sports to the point that fans of both genres should watch it. Ouran High School Host Club
A masterpiece of reverse harem romance
An all-time reverse harem classic, Ouran High School Host Club is probably the anime of this genre. Why? Well, it also happens to be one of the best comedies of all time, while also being a pretty awesome romance (within the confines of a harem structure).
Haruhi, a girl who feels more comfortable dressing as a student, eventually joins her school's host club to pay off a debt, an agreement that was reached before the club members realized her gender. In short, most of the boys develop feelings for Haruhi, especially the club president.
Ouran High School Host Club it worked as well as it does because all the main characters are fully fleshed out and their relationships with Haruhi are not defined. As a result, any romantic feelings feel quite natural.
My happy marriage
Not everything works, but the main romance is great
One of the more famous ones Netflix romance anime exclusives, My happy marriage he led a strange life. Both seasons debuted to relatively high acclaim, but gradually waned. Admittedly, the show has some notable weaknesses, namely a tendency to portray one-note villains. The supernatural element can also feel half-baked at times and the action sequences aren't great.
For all its flaws, My happy marriage he gets one thing at a glance: Kiyoka and Miyo's romance. At first, this anime feels like a comedy that seems to have no interest in establishing legitimate relationships, but that keeps changing as the story progresses. During the second half of the season, Romantic killer becomes a surprisingly effective romance, with Anzu having great chemistry with all three male leads.
Hi Score Girl
A love story driven by gameplay
He's just cute here Netflix romance anime. Hi Score Girl is a love letter to old school gaming, especially arcades. The anime primarily revolves around the “rivalry” between Haru and Akira, with the former never being able to defeat the latter. Over the course of half a decade or so, the two bonded over their shared experiences and love of gaming, despite spending a lot of time apart during that time. Haruo also develops a fascinating friendship with another girl named Koharu.
Hi Score Girl is a low-stakes and mostly laid-back anime that doesn't overstay its welcome or rely too heavily on melodrama. Romance is not always the main focus, but is always placed in the background.
