LEGO plans to create a file based on Pokemon TCGand gives fans a chance to decide which one will be released. After partnering with MEGA Bloks for several years, Pokemon the license ended with LEGO in early 2026. The company wasted no time in putting its stamp on the franchise, releasing several sets based on popular Pokémon, as well as iconic items such as Kanto Gym Badges and the Pokémon Center.
While the company has been tight-lipped about its future plans, several LEGO Pokemon kits leaked online. Over the past three decades, Pokemon the franchise has grown massively and there is no shortage of potential sets that LEGO could offer. Right now, the focus seems to be mostly on the first generation of games, but it's clear that LEGO will expand beyond the elements introduced in Pokemon red and green.
LEGO Pokemon TCG Finalists
In March, LEGO launched a competition in which builders were tasked with inventing a set based on Pokemon TCG. With the Pokedex currently sitting at 1,025 entries, the company has implemented specific guidelines regarding which Pokemon are allowed. LEGO has already released sets based on major Pokemon, including Pikachu, Charizard and Eevee. All of these were eliminated from the competition, forcing participants to create a build from a list of 30 Pokemon, none of which had previously had LEGO sets. The finalists have now been chosen and fans can vote for one design based on either Gyarados, Mew, Rowlet, Joltik or Arceus.

Voting is now live on the official LEGO website and the voting phase will run until June 11th. Unfortunately, it looks like there will be a long wait between the voting and the announcement, as the winner won't be revealed until February 4th. The LEGO Ideas program brings fan creations to life, although the final product may sometimes differ from the original setup. This means that the design sold in stores may not be exactly what the fans vote for, but it should be pretty close.
It will be interesting to see which of these proposals gets the most votes. Gyarados and Mew have a popularity advantage; both have been around since the early days of the franchise. Of course, Arceus is considered an Original, and Pokemon lore makes him a pretty big deal among fans. However, Rowlet was the starter on both occasions Sun and Moon and Pokemon Legends: Arceusand starter Pokemon tend to be more familiar to casual fans. With how beloved all of these Pokemon are, it's hard to imagine that Joltik could be the winner, but the reality is that all of these suggestions are very impressive. LEGO chose these five finalists for good reason, and there's a chance that any of them will be the winner, regardless of their popularity.

The Pokemon TCG has been a big part of the franchise's popularity since the very beginning, and a set based on the card game could be a big hit for LEGO. It's one of the best ideas the company has come up with since it was acquired Pokemon license and could bode well for future sets. Pokemon is a franchise with a deep history, and there are plenty of creative ways to honor it beyond just offering sets based on series icons. It remains to be seen which of these designs will be offered for sale, but Pokemon fans invested in the winner will have to cast their vote and hope for the best.
