For a small but creatively rich studio like TeamODD, using dreams as the basis for a first-person shooter is an idea worth pursuing.
In an interview with Game Rant, developers TeamODD discussed the team's initial thoughts on choosing dreams as a creative framework and the benefits it brings. In particular, these disconnected dreams gave the developers unprecedented freedom to explore a wide range of ideas, resulting in a unique indie game that brings dozens of scenarios that would otherwise never be seen in the same title.

Anything can happen in the lucid dream levels of ODDRooM
As a small studio with four developers, TeamODD faces a challenge similar to that faced by many of the best indie games in recent memory. Limited manpower and resources require exceptional ideas and innovation, as the team cannot rely on big-budget cinematic sequences, gigantic open worlds and top-notch voice actors to draw a crowd. TeamODD says that working with dreams fosters a creative atmosphere in the studio that leads to unique ideas.
We believed that the unrestricted concept of the “dream” would allow our developers to come up with more ideas, and since there was no real concept to guide them, they could freely communicate and develop… For example, a crashing plane, a medieval castle, a roof-to-floor battle and other game environments not often found in realistic or sci-fi FPS games. You've probably had dreams about falling from a great height, traveling back in time, and finding yourself in a place you know but don't know where. ODDRooM is a world of dreams.
Even the best first-person shooters are limited by their themes, with realistic tactical shooters sticking to their guns in the real world or sci-fi shooters like Fate it requires some internal consistency to remain believable. Because dreams are largely unbelievable, the only rule ODDRooM they must observe that there are no rules. Anything can appear in a dream, and TeamODD's possibilities are only limited by the developers' imaginations.
The variety of ODDRooM enemies has no limits
This leads to a staggering variety of sequences behind each door ODDRooMseat center area. One dream might see the player in a cartoonish dreamscape fighting hideous monsters, while another might see them in a realistic-looking dungeon being chased by a gigantic rabbit. Additionally, many of these sequences are inspired by common dream scenarios, such as being stuck on a falling plane. TeamODD points out that these environments can vary in theme, size, and even how the level is visually rendered. One dream may be contained within a small dungeon, while another has the player overlooking a massive futuristic cyberpunk cityscape.
Each room has a different atmosphere and texture, such as a fairy tale world, a futuristic city or a dark nightmare. You will experience different battles in each stage. At first only one door is unlocked, but clearing the room unlocks other doors and you can gradually attack more and more stages. As the number of rooms increases, the level of difficulty increases, but on the other hand, the number of CatCoins you can earn also increases, allowing you to grow faster.
This creative freedom also extends to ODDRooMassortment of enemies. ODDRooMThe gameplay trailer showed a creature reminiscent of the Living Jars from Elden Ringwhile other enemies ranged from whimsical and cute to downright terrifying.
