Throughout God of War franchise, Kratos has run into plenty of godlike foes. Over the years, the games have seen Kratos battle many Greek gods during his time in Greece. The original adversaries on the Spirit of Sparta's path were of various sizes, forms, and power levels.
The Greek gods gave Kratos a hard time completing his quest for revenge against the Olympians, with some of them coming extremely close to ending it for the Spartan. The most powerful Greek gods in the series are part of some of the game's most memorable scenes and boss fights, while playing a significant role in Kratos' overall story in Greece.

7 Gaia
Titan Earth

Gaia was the Mother of the Titans and the second most powerful Titan after Cronos. She is the personification of Earth and has played a major role in the two plays in which she has appeared. She is also the narrator of the series.
Gaia has made some questionable decisions God of War III, which eventually led to her death. There are other gods stronger than she; however, she was still a formidable threat that came close to killing Zeus and Kratos.
6 Cronos
Titan of Time

Cronos was the greatest and most powerful Titan in the series as well as in classical mythology. The King of Titans had few rivals who could match his power. He was able to carry the giant temple of Pandora on his back for ages, demonstrating his immense strength.
Cronos' sheer size and past feats such as killing Ouranos made him a formidable Titan. The only beings capable of defeating him were entities like Kratos and Zeus. However, plenty of gods have shown greater power throughout the series.
5 Thanatos
God of Death
- Occurs in: God of War: Ghost of Sparta
Thanatos, the god of death, only appears once in the series. Few dared to enter his territory, and the few who did failed to return. Although he died at the hands of Kratos, the impact it had on his psyche was huge as he killed Kratos' brother Deimos.
Even the Sisters of Fate, an extremely powerful trio that could control the fabric of time, had no control over Thanatos. This demonstrates his immense power as a being prior to the Olympians.
4 Athena
Goddess of wisdom

Athena was one of Kratos' longtime allies throughout his journey in Greece. Although there were Olympians who were stronger than the Goddess of War, she was still better than Ares, the original God of War.
At the end of the year, Athena sacrificed herself to save Zeus God of War IIallowing her to enter a new plane of existence. In her astral form, Athena was one of the most powerful beings in the series. However, this eventually corrupted her with greed as she sought to become the sole ruler of humanity.
3 Hades
God of the underworld

Hades was one of the most powerful Greek gods in the series, with only Zeus and Poseidon surpassing him in overall strength. The god of the dead commanded every spirit in the underworld. Hades had access to a wide range of abilities while also being a physically imposing threat capable of killing Titans.

Hades would eventually be killed by Kratos after a tough battle against the Ghost of Sparta. Despite his death, Hades showed enough strength to warrant a high ranking among the strongest Olympians in the series.
2 Poseidon

Poseidon was an incredibly strong Olympian and his strength was surpassed only by that of his brother Zeus. He was able to defeat Titans such as Epimetheus with a single blow. Poseidon probably could have killed Gaia as well if not for Kratos' intervention.
The water god was eventually defeated by a Spartan. However, it is highly likely that Poseidon would destroy the Titans' march to Mount Olympus. Kratos may have won in the end, but the sea god's power cannot be denied.
1 Zeus
King of Olympus

Zeus is the god of thunder, although this is only one of his many prestigious titles. As the King of the Olympians, he is easily the strongest god Kratos has faced during his time in Greece. The overarching antagonist of the Greek saga, Zeus, possessed unparalleled power that Kratos could only rival through the power of hope.
Zeus was able to survive several stabs from the blades of Olympus. He banished the Titans to the pits of Tartarus and performed feats of extreme strength that many others in the series failed to achieve.
