All-Elite Wrestling perhaps after last year's lukewarm reception, he's switching to a different developer for his next video game AEW Fight Forever. Compete with WWE 2K series, AEW recruited Yukes, the studio behind classic wrestling games such as WWF No Mercyto recreate the more arcade action of the old game sims. The result was AEW Fight Foreverwhich was released in June 2023.
However, AEW Fight Forever didn't quite take the gaming world by storm as its parent company had hoped, it was met with mixed reviews at launch and a mixed reception that only continued after Yukes released additional playable wrestlers and game modes. While many players welcomed AEW Fight ForeverThe game's more retro style, overall lack of polish, and limited presentation (such as the lack of match commentary) left many wrestling fans wanting more. AEW owner Tony Khan said this earlier this year AEW Fight Forever will continue to gain support, but more recent insider accounts paint a potentially different picture.
According to Insider Gaming, multiple sources claim that higher-ups at All-Elite Wrestling are “strongly considering” finding a new developer for their next major console game due to reported issues during AEW Fight Foreverdevelopment. One of these sources says so Fight forever went over budget and under-delivered at launch. This is on top of the numerous problems and delays that have occurred AEW Fight Forever during its development cycle, with a previous report from Insider Gaming saying Yuke was under pressure to release the game earlier than it “was supposed to be”.
The next AEW game could have a new developer
AEW's original contract with Yukes' required updates for at least one full year AEW Fight Foreverwhich seems to be accomplished with the latest DLC pack, which has added famous AEW wrestlers like Jay White, Samoa Joe, and WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland. Although there are still plenty of popular AEW stars that haven't been added Fight foreverThe roster, such as Will Ospreay and Mercedes Mone (formerly WWE's Sasha Banks), remains up in the air if Yuke plans more DLC.
If AEW is indeed considering hiring another developer for a future licensed video game, then AEW Fight Forever may end up getting no further support. While WWE seems to have found its footing in the gaming world with successes like WWE 2K24his rival All-Elite Wrestling could be heading back to the drawing board after the mixed reception of its initial foray into virtual wrestling.
