The sequel to 2015's epic horror game Until Dawn was announced during today's PlayStation State of Play. The project is being managed by Firesprite Games, the first-party PlayStation studio best known for Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
The trailer features a group of ghost hunters who appear to live on a large, sparsely populated island. As expected, their good times are soon interrupted by an individual with murderous intentions.
The official synopsis from PlayStation reads: “This time our cast is a crew of ghost hunters, the faces behind the hugely popular paranormal channel Dead True.. They just, well… they've never actually seen anything paranormal. The hauntings they're known for are, shall we say, a little staged. But everything changes when they come face-to-face with real horror for the very first time.”
As with the original – developed by Supermassive Games – a group of actors were cast to lend their looks and voices to the characters. Starring, among others, Neil Newbon (Baldur's Gate 3) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things).

If Until Dawn isn't about Until Dawn, what is?
So is it just plain old horror?
In terms of continuity, a psychologist from the original game (portrayed by Peter Stormar) makes a brief appearance at the end of the trailer, hinting that the sequel takes place in the same universe as the first Wendig-infested game.
The last line of the trailer suggests, “Anyone can live, anyone can die,” which is always a welcome reassurance.
Until Dawn 2 announced in game status
The Until Dawn brand was potentially damaged by the release of the critically panned film adaptation earlier this year, but that probably won't hurt the appetites of fans of the genre who have been pampered in recent years.
The original game's developer, Supermassive, recently released The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 to mixed reviews, something that has become typical of the series.
Until Dawn 2 is due out sometime next year.
