The year 2025 brought something amazing triple A experiences across different genres. Ghost of Yotei was a compelling open-world game with slick samurai action and a deep story. Donkey Kong Banana was an amazing return for DK at his strongest yet, with plenty of villains and mountains to destroy with his bare fists.
Battlefield 6 brought a multiplayer shooter that returned the series to form. I could go on and on, but here's the thing: it's been a big year. With 2025 coming to an end, it's time to look forward to what 2026 holds. Another round of triple-A games could be even better than what 2025 brought, with these upcoming releases set to blow critics and gamers alike.
Resident Evil Requiem
Back to Raccoon City
- Planned release date: 27.2.26
- Planned systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
Resident Evil Requiem will be the ninth mainline entry in the series and the first to return to Raccoon City in some time. Although the release date is fast approaching, there are still many unknown details, such as whether the long-touted Leon S. Kennedy will appear alongside Grace, the new protagonist.
Also, similar to the beginning Resident Evil 7: Biohazardthe game looks more complicated and scary because Grace doesn't seem to have many ways to defend herself. It doesn't matter if it's more of a creepy simulator or an action horror, it's sure to excite fans next February.
Crimson Desert
It could rival Skyrim
- Planned release date: 19.3.26
- Planned systems: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Crimson desert it looks like it could be an early contender for one of the best open world games of 2026, as the amount of features is staggering. It looks like a standard action RPG set in a fantasy world, but there are some sci-fi aspects like mechanical dragons, robots, and weapons that make it stand out from the crowd.
Players can ride a horse, climb buildings, fly a kite or glide on a parasol while exploring the world. There are big bosses that players can mount Shadow of the Colossus –style, powers that can psychically catch bullets out of the air or pick up stone pillars and much more.
007 First Light
Bond Meets Uncharted
- Planned release date: 27.3.26
- Planned systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
It's been a long time since the last one James Bond game a 007 First Light looks like nothing the series has seen before. Bond is a younger man and not officially an agent yet, so he's eager to prove himself, which leads to deception and probably some bad decisions that lead to the film's action.
The game will feature many ways to approach missions between stealth and action, similar to Hitman franchise (created by the same developer). It feels like a linear experience with a lot of bombastic scenery, not unlike that Uncharted series, and that should sound fantastic to fans of the single player, as it's been a while since they've seen Nathan Drake, and James Bond is a perfectly fine replacement.
Grand Theft Auto 6
Vice City Calls
Grand Theft Auto 6

- Released
-
May 26, 2026
- ESRB
-
Rating pending – probably over 17 years old
- Engine
-
Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE)
- Planned release date: 26.5.26
- Planned systems: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Grand Theft Auto 6 there's no need to release another trailer because fans were sold the moment the game was announced. There are still a lot of mysteries surrounding the game, such as whether or not both Jason and Lucia will be playable and how open the world will be, but that only serves to add to the hype.
That said, in the two trailers there are already many locations for players to explore, including Vice City, some swamps, and a national park. Players can play golf, box, play pool, kayak and much more. This game is already almost guaranteed to be the best selling game of 2026. What more can I say?.
Marvel's Wolverine
Too many Marvel games
- Planned release date: Autumn 2026
- Planned systems: PS5
Marvel's Wolverine has been cooking for a long time and seems almost ready to debut. Wolverine is hungry for action and so are his adamantium claws. From the debut trailer, it looks a bit linear, but with some open spaces to explore. This is quite unlike Insomniac Spider-Man games, but a more focused experience could be good too.
Not everything has to be an open world game, and at least Insomniac has proven that they get what makes a character great: lots of gore. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could also come out in 2026, which also looks interestingly like the Marvel games, so Wolverine will have strong competition.
Onimusha: Path of the Sword
Another horror masterpiece from Capcom
- Planned release date: 2026
- Planned systems: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Onimusha: Path of the Sword sees a comeback Onimusha proper franchise in 2026 after twenty years of fans waiting for a proper sequel. Between the parry system and large, intimidating enemies, combat feels more intense than ever, almost soul-like.
It looks like it has a darker tone, but the humor is still there too, with flamboyant demons who revel in blood and carnage and a protagonist who isn't your typical suave hero. Between this and Resident Evil RequiemCapcom will rule the horror scene in 2026.
Dawnwalker blood
The Witcher, Reborn
- Planned release date: 2026
- Planned systems: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Dawnwalker blood it is developed by a team of creators who also worked on it Charmer plays, including one of the directors The Witcher 3. Fans of the series can expect the same intense action, between melee skills and magic, as well as a branching story and rock-solid writing.
The plot is that players are newly vampires and can either feast on the innocent or use their newfound powers for justice. There are day and night sections, with the forces of darkness being stronger during the witching hour. Walk walls, develop new vampiric abilities, complete quests and more in this upcoming open world gothic adventure.
Mechanical revolution
Steampunk into the future
- Planned release date: TBA
- Planned systems: PC and Xbox Series X
Mechanical revolution had a big trailer this year, showing everything it has under the hood. The best trick will be the time manipulation feature, in which players and enemies can seemingly change the fate of the city in which the game takes place.
At its core, the game is a first-person shooter RPG, so players can expect plenty of quests, character customization options, and weapons. It might not be ready until 2026, but we're crossing our fingers because it could be the start of a big new franchise under the Xbox roof.
