Key things

  • Valve has been quietly improving the Steam Community Market and improving the user experience for gamers around the world.
  • Users have seen a significant increase in response without official confirmation from Valve.
  • Despite the lack of recognition, speed improvements on the platform are clearly visible to frequent users.

Valve has made some significant speed improvements Steam Community Market, which upgraded the overall user experience for players around the world. Interestingly, Valve has not officially confirmed that it has changed anything when it comes to the Steam Community Market, even though users have recently reported a significantly improved experience with the platform.

The Steam Community Market was first released in May 2013 alongside the Steam Trading Cards feature. After its release, players could also use the community market to buy and sell items from Valve titles Team Strength 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensiveand many games have been added over the years. Now a staple of the Steam platform, it serves as an easy way for players to move their insanely expensive virtual items to others or expand their own inventory without having to directly trade with another player.

Steam Deck is coming to a new region

Valve is announcing that the Steam Deck will be available for sale in a new area that previously had no direct access to the gaming handheld.

Conceptually, the Steam Community Market is great. But over the years it has been plagued with speed issues. Searching for items would take a while and users were often greeted with error messages preventing them from finding what they were looking for. Spamming the page was a temporary solution, but Valve would restrict users who made too many requests in a short amount of time. However, as user Huraira91 pointed out in a Reddit thread, the Steam Community Market suddenly feels extremely sensitive.

Others in the thread agreed and just a quick use of the Steam Community Market confirms this. The previous problems were so common and obvious even to ordinary users that it is not just a placebo effect. Despite the apparent improvements, Valve has yet to issue any statement confirming the new changes on Steam. Frequent users of the Steam Community Market won't complain if it stays as responsive as it feels at the moment.

Steam remains the dominant platform for PC users. While some players are committed to DRM-free platforms such as GOG, most remain on Steam. Over the years, many publishers have left Steam for pastures new, trying to get around the 30% cut that Valve receives from each game sale. As it turns out, most will eventually return to Steam, with Valve's cut proving worth the exposure. The latest example is Ubisoft, the company recently confirmed this Assassin's Creed Mirage is finally coming to Steam, with all of its future games coming to the platform on day one. At this point, it's hard to imagine any other platform achieving such dominance on PC.
