Valve officially begins the distribution of the first orders of the Steam controller in more than 19 countries

Valve is now shipping the first Steam Controller orders, according to thousands of consumer testimonials on social media. Based on the first wave of reports, some of the orders in at least 22 of the 32 countries where Valve officially sells the device have already completed the packaging phase.

The second generation Steam Controller was announced in November 2025, two days after the tenth anniversary of Valve's first dedicated PC gamepad. It went on sale via Valve's storefront on May 4th, officially at 10:00am PT, although many fans reported completing their orders as early as 9:58am PT. The Steam Controller sold out within hours, despite Valve releasing stock in waves, causing it to alternate between “in stock” and “out of stock” during this hectic launch period.

Steam Deck 2 Valve Issues Statement

A senior Valve official offers an update to Steam Deck 2, which the company confirmed years ago was part of its long-term plans.

The first Steam Controller order has already arrived, with many more on the way

Two days after the release of the Steam Controller, some early adopters have already reported receiving their units. Confirming social media reports identified by GameRant indicate that only select customers in California received the much-anticipated device as of May 6. Consumers in 21 other countries also reported seeing the shipment status of their orders clear the “Packaged items” step. This number represents roughly two-thirds of the 32 countries where the Steam controller is officially offered.

Buyers in 11 countries have reported that their orders are now in the third phase of “Carrier Collection”. Some users in the United States, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Lithuania have also reached the fourth stage, where their orders have been assigned tracking numbers, indicating that they are on their way or about to be shipped. Valve thus appears to be on track to meet its original estimate that the first wave of shipments will arrive between May 7th and 11th, depending on the region.

Launch day orders for the trackpad equipped gamepad were limited to two per customer. Despite this restriction, some scalpers are already trying to flip their confirmed Steam Controller orders for aggressive markups. As always, consumers are advised not to purchase from resellers to limit incentives for such offers in the future, especially as Valve works to restock the device as quickly as possible.
