Veilguard reveals how it uses the PS5 Pro

BioWare stated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have specific PS5 Pro enhancements for players to choose from. The developer said so Dragon Age: The Veilguard will take advantage of Sony's new AI-based upscaling and improved ambient occlusion technology to enhance the PS5 Pro's Performance and Fidelity game modes.

Although Dragon Age: The Veilguard comes out just days before the PS5 Pro's scheduled launch on November 7th, which hasn't stopped developers like EA and BioWare from announcing their plans for Sony's improved console. Compared to the base PS5, PS5 Pro's upgraded GPU is capable of rendering games 45% faster, has improved ray tracing capability and can use AI-based upscaling via PSSR to increase performance without sacrificing graphics quality. The highly anticipated fourth entry in Dragon Age series is just one of a growing list of titles that will offer exclusive PS5 Pro enhancements.

Along with revealing the PC specification requirements for Dragon Age: The VeilguardBioWare has revealed how its upcoming title will utilize PS5 Pro technology. According to BioWare Studio CTO Maciej Kurowski, PSSR's AI-based PSSR upscaler will be used to improve performance mode settings. Dragon Age: The Veilguard up to the graphics quality of Fidelity mode. While the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions Veilguard will still use Fidelity and Performance modes, which limit the game to 30 and 60 frames per second (FPS), respectively, the PS5 Pro will improve both modes overall, as improved resolution and visual options will be available. Kurowski said BioWare will also enable Raytraced Ambient Occlusion (RTAO) when the game is set to Performance mode on the PS5 Pro. RTAO is also available on the base PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but only if the game is set to Fidelity mode.

BioWare also confirmed that the PS5 version Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be available for pre-load from the PlayStation Store on Tuesday, October 29 at noon Eastern, two days before the game's Halloween release. However, Xbox Series X/S users can now start preloading the game from October 14th. Since the PC version Dragon Age: The Veilguard do not use Denuvo DRM, preload will not be available, but downloads will begin on October 31st at noon Eastern.

Although Dragon Age: The Veilguard will still look impressive on the base PS5, the improved specs of the PS5 Pro cannot be understated. The PS5 Pro may be the best-selling console on Amazon, but only time will tell Veilguard will actually perform on it.
