Cyberpunk 2077A sequel may still be a long way off, but that hasn't stopped the speculation from running wild. Sequel, currently known simply as Project Orionexpected to continue the legacy and unmistakable style Cyberpunk 2077and hopefully learn from its shortcomings as well.
Whether Project Orion will actually be a direct sequel is unclear, as are all endings Cyberpunk 2077 they are completely conclusive and don't leave much room for V and Johnny's story to continue. With that in mind, there's also a solid chance that Orion will take players beyond the iconic Night City, perhaps introducing new urban environments or even different time settings, and explore different points of this disturbing vision of humanity's future. The cyberpunk genre naturally emphasizes the dense and dirty elements of hypermodern life and reflects real-world concerns such as urban sprawl and rampant industrialization, but the natural world has not been completely displaced—evident in the vast Cyberpunk 2077's barren Badlands. Based on the little information available about Project Orionit's possible that players will see more of this side of Mike Pondsmith's sci-fi world.

Project Orion's Ostensible Animal Focus, Explained
Animals are rare in Cyberpunk 2077, but perhaps less so in Project Orion
A recent job offer from CD Projekt Red for a Project Orion Character Artist specifically mentions animals. Specifically, the listing says the ideal candidate will have “a very good understanding of both human and animal form and anatomy.” This is obviously vague, but the fact that the list tries to emphasize the importance of animal anatomy suggests that new animals could be designed for Project Orion—something that would be obvious to most games, but is loaded with given meaning Cyberpunkworld.
What the arrival of more animals could mean for Project Orion
Lack of wild and domestic animals in Cyberpunk 2077 is directly linked to the lore of the game. A few decades ago Cyberpunk 2077 Serious zoonotic epidemics led to the mass eradication of most animals except humans, especially in denser communities where civilians were more at risk. The “Wildlife in Night City” data snippet even suggests that small insects were exterminated as a result of these plagues.
But the obvious counter to this is that animal life is probably more abundant outside the night city, a view that supports Cyberpunk 2077An iguana egg that comes from the Badlands and must be smuggled into town. So if CD Projekt Red really plans to introduce more animals Project Orionthen it would be natural to assume that players will see more of the world beyond the walls of Night City. In other words, if animal life is more abundant in rural or untamed areas, a Project Orion doubles animal life, then perhaps its environment incorporates such areas to a greater extent than its predecessors.
Nevertheless, it is always important to consider alternative explanations. More animals could indicate a departure from Night City, but it could also simply mean more animals being incorporated within the walls of the metropolis. One interesting piece a tradition that has been underexplored Cyberpunk 2077 is that pet ownership isn't actually illegal, it's just restricted to the ultra-rich because of the high taxes that come with it. With that in mind, CDPR's requirement for animal designs may be the result of a character or sidequest revolving around such a unique perk of a privilege in her game world. That would be interesting, yes, but hardly as transformative as a greater focus on the natural world in general.
