Will GTA 6 have multiplayer at launch?

While most gamers can't wait to get a taste of Jason and Lucia's Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic, others are just as curious to see if GTA 6 will feature online multiplayer at launch.

GTA 6 launches as a single-player experience

A recent report from Rockstar pro GTA 6 described it as “single player experience” ahead of a November 19, 2026 release date. Rockstar has yet to reveal an online component for GTA 6which some fans call GTA Online 2. They didn't confirm any additional multiplayer features like online co-op on launch day.

As of this writing, Rockstar's focus remains solely on promotion GTA VI story campaign that follows protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos across the State of Leonidas and the neon-drenched streets of Vice City. All trailers, screenshots and official news are exclusively focused on the single player game mode.

Will GTA Online return in Grand Theft Auto 6?

That said, the absence of online multiplayer at launch doesn't necessarily mean that GTA 6 gets none. In fact, Rockstar has used a very similar strategy before.

When GTA 5 which launched in September 2013, players only had access to the single-player campaign on the first day. GTA Online arrived roughly two weeks later, giving fans plenty of time to familiarize themselves with Los Santos before diving into the chaos of online multiplayer. In a similar case, Red Dead Redemption 2 received”Red Dead Online” after the base game had been in players' hands for some time.

So fans shouldn't worry too much about Rockstar's silence GTA 6 multiplayer. While the studio has yet to officially announce an online component, its history suggests that multiplayer could arrive sometime after launch rather than alongside the main game.
