Pokemon Legends: ZA is finally here and includes a total of 26 new Mega Evolutions for players to play with as they progress through the game. Each Mega Evolution v Pokemon Legends: ZA has its merits, and while players can choose which ones to use based on appearance or personal preference, not all of these critters are born equal.
Knowing which Megas are good or average can also help with starter selection Pokemon Legends: ZAbecause all three of the first partner Pokemon will get a new Mega Evolution. Some of them are balanced and can be of great benefit, but others are mediocre at best.
Pokemon Legends: Starter Mega Evolutions Gen 6 ZA are not included as they are not currently available and are tied to both competitive play and ownership of a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Greninja in Season 1, Delphox in Season 2, and Chesnaught in Season 3.
S-Tier Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: ZA
- Mega Chandelure
- Mega Skarmory
- Mega Starmie
- Mega Zygarde
Much to the surprise of many fans, Mega Starmie may be Pokemon Legends: ZAThe best Mega Evolution because it's available fairly early in the game and has great stats as well as move coverage. With a total of 660 Base Stats (BST), the third highest among the new Megas, Starmie is a powerful hybrid attacker with very high speed.
Very similar is Chandelure, which has incredibly high Sp. Attack stat at 175 and a good BST of 620 which gives him good defense and speed. With strong moves and decent coverage against other types, Mega Chandelure is higher than most Mega Evolutions in the game.
Mega Skarmory only has a BST of 565, but is incredibly optimized as it has 40 Sp. Attack and then high stats in every other department, with a staggering 140 attack stats and very high defense and speed. Steel/Flying is a strong Pokémon type combo with amazing defense and can deal serious damage with good moves like Brave Bird and Iron Head.
Pokemon Legends: ZAZygarde is great already, but his Mega Evolution takes him to the next level. This Pokemon has an unearthly 216 Sp. Attack stat and comes with the only new move in the game called Nihil Light. This move deals massive damage regardless of opponent stat changes and also hits Fairy-types.
A-Tier Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: ZA
- Mega Barbaracle
- Mega Emboar
- Mega Excadrill
- Mega Falinks
- Mega Feraligatr
- Mega Flotte
- Mega Hawlucha
- Mega cunning
Barbaracle is one of the few Mega Evolutions with a new type Pokemon Legends: ZAas it loses its water type to Fight. He has very high attack and defense, overall good size and decent speed. With a rich selection of STAB moves and cover moves, Mega Barbaracle is an incredibly strong option for any team.
Mega Emboar in Pokemon Legends: ZA not overwhelming but definitely engaging. He has a very high Attack at 148, although his base Attack is 123, so he doesn't improve much. Still, he has good stats and good STAB moves and resists various annoying types.
Mega Excadrill's attack stat is one of the highest in the game at 165 and has good HP, defense and speed. Combined with very powerful Pokémon Ground moves and a good pick for Steel as well, this is a great addition – especially considering his resistances.
Pokemon Sword and ShieldFalinks is the only Gen 8 creature in the game and it also happens to get a new Mega Evolution. Like Emboar, it has very high attack and defense and has a respectable 100 speed. While only dealing STAB damage with combat moves, Falinks has access to a wide variety of cover moves that make him strong against types he's normally weak against.
Pokemon Legends: ZAMega Feraligatr doesn't move the needle much in terms of defense or offense with its new Water/Dragon combo, but it has a jaw-dropping 160 Attack stat and some great moves. Although its design has proven to be polarizing, it's arguably one of the best Megas in the game and is mostly held back by low HP and speed.
Eternal Flower Floette is an interesting case because her BST is only one point lower than Florges, but her Mega Evolution gets that extra 100 points which makes her very powerful. It has very high Special Attack and Special Defense, but is lackluster when it comes to cover moves. However, as a Fairy-type Pokemon, it is incredibly strong.
Hawlucha was one of the few publicly announced Mega Evolutions for the game. While the base Pokemon is nothing too impressive, Mega Hawlucha has very good stats combined with respectable moves and coverage, which takes this fighting/flying creature to new heights.
Mega Scrafts in Pokemon Legends: ZA he was basically confirmed to be Naveen's ace, and now that he's out, he won't disappoint. With a whopping 135 Defense and Special Defense, along with 130 Attack, Mega Scrafty can be the icing on the cake for any team, further evidenced by her coverage moves and access to the stat-boosting Bulk Up move.
B-Tier Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: ZA
- Mega Clefable
- Mega Dragonite
- Mega Dragalge
- Mega Dramp
- Mega Eelektross
- Mega Froslas
- Mega Pyroar
- Mega Victreebel
A new type of fairy/flying from Mega Clefable REPTILES it's interesting, it gives him new avenues for damage and defense, but he falls a bit short because he only has a few very good moves and only Air Slash as a strong Flying-type attack. Despite being immune to both dragon and ground, he has great defense, he has below average options for his moves making him an average Mega.
Pokemon Legends: ZAMega Dragonite has fantastic stats with a BST of 700, and while it's a good Pokemon overall, it's probably a little lower than the original. Mega Dragonite has lower attack than a regular creature, all while gaining a large amount of special attacks. His movepool is pretty hybrid though, so he's just decent compared to other Megas.
One of the most bizarre designs has Mega Dragalge in Pokemon Legends: ZAwhich looks like part of the Ghost type, but retains its original Poison/Dragon combo. Mega Dragalge has one of the highest special defense values in the game and also has high defense and special attack, but his 44 speed leaves him far behind. In a game where Speed helps with cooldowns on all turns, Mega Dragalge is dead on arrival.
Drampa is in a similar spot to Dragalge as it has an awesome 160 special attack with good size but only packs 36 speed. This means that the battles in Pokemon Legends: ZA it won't be as smooth as other critters, so Mega Drampa is just OK overall.
Eelektross also gets Mega Evolution, and while its stat is impressive for a hybrid attacker, it has its fair share of bugs. Perhaps most notably, Mega Eelektross loses Levitate and Ground immunity due to Pokemon Legends: ZA cutting capabilities. He has access to decent moves, but with a slightly better than average size, he's not one of the best Megas in the game.
Froslas is the only new Ice-type Mega Evolution v Pokemon Legends: ZAand Ice isn't a great guy to begin with. He has a great special attack and a speed stat of 120, but is average in defense as he resists the three worst types in the series.
Pokemon Legends: ZAMega Pyroar is average overall, although it has one of the highest values for speed at 126. The main problem here is that Mega Pyroar lacks good moves and coverage to use in battle, making it a subpar choice.
Victreebel has one of the funnest designs among the new Megas. Although it has respectable stats, the main problem facing Mega Victreebel is that Grass and Poison aren't amazing on offense, and it doesn't really shine at mid speed. He's also a hybrid attacker, which isn't always a good thing,
C-Tier Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: ZA
- Mega Malamar
- Mega Meganium
- Mega Scolipede
Although it had a funny marketing campaign like “My Friend Malamar”, this Mega Evolution is far from great. Mega Malamar has only above average stats in every slot, is designed as a low attack/special attack hybrid, and is mediocre offensively.
Pokemon Legends: ZAMega Meganium misses its attempt to make a Gen 2 starter a large creature. Despite having amazing stats and getting Fairy as a secondary type, Mega Meganium leaves a lot to be desired with its movepool having only a few viable attacks for both Grass and Fairy. With very little coverage and a quadruple weakness to Poison, Mega Meganium is not.
Mega Scolipede is another weird case where its identity changes a lot, like with Mega Dragonite. Mega Scolipede loses a lot of the original's speed stats in favor of high attack and defense, but with average special defense, low HP, and now low speed, it's far from a good Pokemon.
