So I have good news and bad news. The good news is that 007 First LightIt looks like the success will pay off with even more James Bond games in the future. The bad news is that for some reason these projects could be handled by Amazon without IO Interactive's involvement. With the developer responsible for the first James Bond video game masterpiece in decades, logic dictates that perhaps IO Interactive should remain involved.
The gaming resume of Fiction's most famous spy leaves something to be desired, with most of his adventures either forgettable or downright awful. However, when the James Bond game hits the nail on the head, it really scores. Over the last three decades, only a handful of 007 games have justified the label “masterpiece”, but they do.

Golden eye 007
A measuring stick for all James Bond games
Well, we might as well get the most obvious out of the way. Golden eye 007 it's the benchmark for all James Bond games, and it's also conveniently the most important and influential. In the mid-90s, developers struggled to make FPS mechanics fit consoles and controllers, but that all changed when the small, inexperienced team at RARE dropped this beast on Nintendo 64. This release was a landmark for the genre, showing that first-person shooters could work without a keyboard and mouse.
Golden eye 007 invented the modern console shooter.
The brilliance of the game goes beyond just writing the blueprint for the controls, as the mission structure was also incredibly ambitious for the time. Golden eye 007 he gave you (and Bond) objectives to complete rather than anything like that FATEthe “find the key, kill everything” method. The ingenious difficulty even included new objectives. Also, the split screen multiplayer was addicting as hell and is still fun to play until someone chooses Oddjob.
Yes, I know Golden eye 007 it aged like swiss cheese but in 1997 it was a 10/10 masterpiece.

That's right, we're doubling down Golden eye 007! I'm specifically talking about the 2010 Wii remake, and not the decent one, but the unspectacular one GoldenEye 007: Reloaded which eventually came to Xbox 360 and PS3. Except perhaps Metroid Prime 3, Golden eye 007 is the best FPS game on the Wii, and Nintendo's console is by no means lacking in options in the genre.
Eurocom deserves props for pulling off a technical marvel with this remake, pushing the Wii to the limit to deliver a game that looks good, is big, and plays well. Although you can play with a traditional controller, Golden eye 007 it shines brightest when playing with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, probably the only console combination that rivals the speed and precision of a mouse. Also, this version brings so many changes to the record that I don't even think it's right to call it a “remake”.
James Bond 007: Nightfire (Console Version)
The spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007
Yes! It's time to talk about my favorite James Bond game, or at least the one that gives me the most nostalgia. Night fire perfected the Hollywood blockbuster in video game form and arguably serves as a true successor Golden eye 007. For the first time in the history of the franchise, the game managed to fully capture the cinematic appeal of the films, providing backdrops that rivaled almost anything that was happening in the movies at the time.
Night fire it has too many positives to mention, but let's go through at least a few. The inclusion of 'Bond Moments', a mechanic that rewards players for acting as an agent, was sheer genius. Not only is it satisfying to run, but it also encourages players to use Bond's full toolkit AND try out different approaches during missions. When we talk about different approaches, Night fire experimented with open-ended level design in missions such as “The Exchange”, allowing players to choose how they wanted to complete the missions. The multiplayer was also great.

James Bond has nothing on Tom Cruise's biggest character role: Ethan Hunt. Here he trumps the English spy.
James Bond 007: All or Nothing
The perfect swan song for the Brosnan era as Bond
While this is no longer the case in 2026, All or nothing was the best third-person James Bond game for roughly two decades, and it really had no challengers. Shame on the nonsense that it was Die another dayThis 2004 release serves as a much better conclusion to Brosnan's Bond, especially since the actor reprized the role (along with several other alumni such as John Cleese and Judi Dench). A cinematic epic that heralded the trajectory of action-adventure games, All or nothing it was and still is a great experience.
While you can shoot a lot of baddies, the game opts for a slightly slower pace than usual, to the point where it features mechanics specifically designed to encourage you to notice your surroundings. All or nothing is a proper spy simulator, and not just a shooter where you become the main Bond star.
007 First Light
The greatest James Bond game ever
Now that some time has passed since its release, we can safely say that 007 First Light earns a spot in this article for being the best James Bond game since the original Golden eye 007. As a result, it's the franchise's strongest game yet, and its success seems likely to lead to another 007 adventure. Let's just hope we don't have to wait another 14 years for a new title. Rather than a seasoned veteran, the story revolves around a young Bond who is cheeky but also brilliant. IO Interactive Hitman the roots shine through 007 First Lightbut the developers managed to create an experience that is 100% tailor-made for a spy thriller; basically 007 is not just agent 47 with hair.
For 15 years of acting, she forgot the name of James Bond. 007 First Light he not only reminded the world; it redefined the character in a way that felt completely fresh (an impressive thing considering the age of the franchise). Combining IO Interactive's premium stealth design with an unpredictable, high-stakes origin story, 007 First Light could finally usurp Golden eye 007 to become the new standard bearer.
