Edition E.T The LEGO set comes just before the classic family film celebrates a big milestone. 2027 will officially mark the 45th anniversary of the film, which originally opened to fan and critical acclaim in June 1982. ET extraterrestrial is commonly regarded as one of the most influential films of all time and held the title of highest-grossing film of all time for eleven years after its debut, eventually being surpassed by the first Jurassic Park film. E.T has seen several re-releases in honor of major anniversaries of its original release, most recently appearing in IMAX theaters in 2022 to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

E.T joins the many popular movies and film franchises that received new LEGO sets earlier in 2026. The Harry Potter franchise received several LEGO sets earlier in the year, including everything from a Hogwarts hospital wing to a sorting hat ceremony. Star Wars has also been the subject of several sets over the year, most recently with the release of the AT-RT driver's helmet statue and a scaled-down version of the Darth Vader minifigure. Rumor has it that a new Boba Fett LEGO set will also be released alongside it E.T taking place in August.

Between big crossovers and exciting new ideas, LEGO looks to have a lot more on the way for the rest of the year. A recent leak suggested that LEGO is working on a one-of-a-kind Donkey Kong a set replicating one of the franchise's original arcade machines with a playable LEGO version of the classic game. LEGO is also rumored to launch its first iconic crossover Dragon Ball anime franchise that reportedly released a Shenron diorama in November. LEGO fans have a lot to look forward to as various sets will be released during the second half of 2026.
