Battlefield 6 Steam reviews drop to mixed after Season 1 and RedSec release

Even before the release of Battlefield 6, you could really feel the positivity surrounding the series as players jumped into the game after being burned by Battlefield 2042, eager for a game to right the wrongs of the previous one. In large part, it succeeded because Battlefield 6 managed to break records and was touted as a real rival to Call of Duty. At one point, Call of Duty even sweated over its success, even though it claimed it wasn't afraid.

Fast forward and the entire game has a very different vibe. With the launch of Season 1 and the game's new Battle Royale mode, RedSec, opinions are starting to sour on Battlefield 6, whether it's the game's annoying reminders to purchase a battle pass or the number of skins that have been shown off recently that fans feel feel too goofy for the game's more grounded feel. It's been a bit of a disaster for DICE, culminating in a minor review bombing.

Battlefield 6 Steam reviews drop to mixed after Season 1 and RedSec release

Four soldiers dropped to the ground in Battlefield 6 RedSec.

Go to Battlefield 6's Steam page and everything seems relatively normal – until you stop filtering the game's reviews for your specific language. At the time of writing, Battlefield 6 has received nearly 163,000 user reviews, and enough of them are now negative to relegate the game to Mixed. In fact, if you look at the game's user reviews for each day since release, you'll see that October 29th was the first day the game received more negative than positive reviews.

Nor does Sherlock Holmes have to figure out exactly what the problem is. Take a closer look at the latest negative user reviews and you'll see that many of them feel caught off guard by RedSec, with one person saying they feel like they paid DICE to help build a player base for their free-to-play battle royale mode. Other issues include the aforementioned color skins, the new battle pass and increase in microtransactions, and too many similarities to Call of Duty.

This drop on Mixed also makes a lot more sense when you note that the separate page for RedSec currently has a mostly negative Steam rating, and it seems that most of that anger has spilled over to the main Battlefield 6 page as well. Some people are fighting back and saying that Battlefield 6 is still a great game, but it's pretty clear that the honeymoon period is indeed over for many fans.
