Dead Rising fans, stand up! If new reports from MP1st are to be believed, it looks like the cult classic zombie action-adventure is set to get its first real new entry since 2016 soon. What's more, it will bring beloved protagonist Frank West back into the limelight.
While there's no direct timeline for when the game could be revealed and subsequently released, the Dead Rising revival, currently codenamed “Rec,” has reportedly been in development since 2023. With Frank as the main character, the game would appear to be a direct sequel to the original Dead Rising, which was released in 2006.
If that wasn't reason enough to celebrate, then the game will reportedly be set in Hollywood, a worthy place for a photographer like Frank.
I wish I could relive Dead Rising for the first time
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is the best way to play Frank West's adventure, but I'll never forget my first time.
If all this is true, then The Next Dead Rising could be an All-Timer
A Hollywood setting would apparently feature a deranged filmmaker trying to make the “perfect movie.” Psychopaths would be a major part of the game, something that the canceled Dead Rising 5 would bring back.
Some of the game's survivors will be actors from the film, and some well-known characters will reportedly appear, including Isabela. The camera will of course be a part of the title's gameplay, while time limit, another fan favorite, will also be a central part of things.
In a rather amusing and cruel twist, someone Frank saves early in the game turns out to be an assistant director who later becomes a key psychopath. The unfortunate assistant “has the task of filming everything while having a bomb strapped to his body.” Phew!
Unfortunately, MP1st reckons the game is a long way off, even though it's been in development for a few years now. This part makes sense given some of the timelines of other games in Capcom's development.
It also makes sense that Capcom would bring Frank back to the fore in this as-yet-unrevealed sequel, given that the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster proved to be a hit and helped introduce players to Frank, giving Capcom a certain way to keep things going with the familiar protagonist.
Be that as it may, as we've seen with Onimusha and Resident Evil, another revival of the defunct franchise seems to be on the horizon. If only Mega Man could get the same love. Seriously, Capcom, please.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 could be a hit if it was called literally anything else
Bloodlines 2 was a critical and commercial failure when it launched earlier this year, but what if things had been different?
