By the end of season 2, Sung Jinwoo has pushed out almost every hunter in Korea. His physical abilities were on a whole other level and he kept up with the likes of Beru. Jinwoo's strength is certainly impressive, but he is far from the strongest character Solo leveling.

The Shadow Monarch reveals his power
In the third season of Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo heads to Cartenon Temple, the place where it all began for the hero. He was given the key to the temple in season 2, but decided not to head there right away, which turned out to be the right decision. Jinwoo first focused on creating his own guild and registering it. The biggest problem he faced was related to the name of the guild. Finally, after much thought, he decided to name it Ahjin Guild. Once matters regarding the guild were settled, Sung Jinwoo headed to the Cartenon Temple.
As Jinwoo used the key to enter the place, memories related to the temple flooded back. He remembered how the statues had almost killed him. But the hero knew that the second time would be different. Not long after entering the temple, Jinwoo was put to the test by Kandiar, the architect of the system, who made it clear that the hero would not get answers unless he passed the test.
Sung Jinwoo was ready for the challenge, so he immediately began to demolish the statues. After destroying them, the God Statue launched its onslaught, but was crushed by Jinwoo. Once they were all resolved, Kandiaru gave Jinwoo a final challenge to defeat the architect within 10 minutes. If Jinwoo couldn't defeat the architect within the time limit, he would die.
The architect overpowered Sung Jinwoo
As Jinwoo began to attack the Architect, it was clear that there was a noticeable difference in their strengths. The hero used his most blatant attacks, but Kandiaru countered them effortlessly. Things weren't looking good for Jinwoo, but he refused to give up, a trait he possessed before becoming a Player. After some time, Sung Jinwoo finally began to gain the upper hand in battle and finally defeated the architect.
The Shadow Monarch will debut in Season 3
After his defeat, the Architect caught Jinwoo off guard and put him into a state of paralysis. During this time, Jinwoo experienced the battle between Ashborn and Rakan and Baran. He saw the Shadow Monarch fight against the two and finally kill Aries. There was another part where Ashborn and a bunch of magical animals went up against an army of Overlords. Unsurprisingly, the victory was again secured by Ashborn. A brief flashback made it clear that Ashborn was a force to be reckoned with. If Season 3 also covers the Monarchs War Arc (though it's unlikely), fans will get an even better understanding of Ashborn's power.

The power of the Shadow Monarch was almost unparalleled. For starters, he had insanely high mana reserves, allowing him to sustain a massive Shadow Army. His physical abilities were nothing to scoff at either. Using his physical strength, Ashborn could easily decimate someone like Rakan without too much difficulty. Since Jinwoo inherited Ashborn's abilities, he effectively replaced Shadow Monarch as the strongest character in Solo Leveling.
The wait for solo leveling season 3 continues
A-1 Pictures has yet to announce a third season
There is no doubt that the third season of Solo Leveling will be exciting and full of drama, but unfortunately there is no update regarding the release date. The anime's second season ended in March 2025, and since then neither the studio nor Crunchyroll have shared any updates on the subject. The lack of news regarding Season 3 strongly suggests that the studio may not be ready to jump on the bandwagon just yet. After all, it takes a lot of effort to produce an anime like Solo Leveling. The studio also can't rush the process because that would compromise the quality of the animation, which is one of anime's standout qualities.
Earlier this year, some staff members were asked about the next installment of the anime, but their answers only made fans more anxious. They said that Solo Leveling Season 3 will only happen if fans continue to support the series, which can be interpreted as not happening anytime soon. Fans have been vocal about the third season of Solo Leveling and are desperate to watch it. So the efforts of the fans are not lacking. Sadly, there is nothing Solo Leveling fans can do but wait for the official accounts to drop some updates.
