List of 3rd level Dungeons and Dragons class levels

Dungeons and DragonsThe 2024 edition has been around for a while and has made a lot of changes from 5e in 2014. That said, some classes benefited from the new edition more than others, but most gained something in terms of strength and balance. Just as not all classes are created equal from the start, their power level and scaling changes as the game progresses. DnD the class may be the best in the game at level 20, but one of the worst early on. further Dungeons and Dragons works in Tiers, which determines the class level of your class:

  • Tier 1 includes characters between Tier 1 and Tier 4.

  • Level 2 includes characters between level 5 and level 10.

  • Level 3 includes characters between level 11 and level 16.

  • Level 4 includes characters between level 17 and level 20.

This system is based on major unlocks for each class, as most of the biggest upgrades happen at levels 5, 11 and 17.

Since your class is one of the most important aspects of your character, next to the race you choose and your character's background, it's important to know which classes are the best or worst to choose at level 3. Because level 3 is the universal breaking point for subclasses in Dungeons and Dragonseach class gets a performance.

Dungeons & Dragons allows players to create characters as they see fit, but these builds are downright broken.

S-Tier: Courses that make your experience a walk in the park

  • Druid
  • Paladin
  • Magician
  • Wizard

Druid can be one of the best classes at low levels Dungeons and Dragons 2024 because it has several features that can make it harder to kill while still providing good damage and great utility. Feral Form is perhaps one of the most OP abilities in the game at level 3, with forms like Spider and Wolf being incredibly powerful. At low levels, the Druid is extremely versatile and can cast cantrips, spells, and even has a Wild Companion to go with her normal abilities and Wild Shape. Primal Order can also make you a better magic user or an all-around helper with weapons and medium armor. Circle of the Moon remains the best choice for subclasses thanks to the 9 extra HP and 13 + Wisdom for AC. Still, all of the Druid subclasses are great at level 3, with the sea offering a reliable way to deal massive damage (especially at +3 Wisdom or higher), the land providing guaranteed damage and multi-target healing, and the stars providing free guide bolt and star form.

Conceptually a hybrid between Fighter and Cleric, Paladin packs some great abilities with good HP and weapon/armor skill. Between Lay On Hands to heal up to 15 HP (5 per level) and/or heal poison, casting spells, choosing between a combat-style feat and Blessed Warrior, Divine Smite, and Channel Divinity's Divine Sense, a Paladin has practically every tool he could need at level 3. On top of that, he can have even more perks and choose a subclass DnD New 2024 subclasses include Oath of Exalted Jinn for Paladin, which is incredibly fun to roleplay and just as powerful, thanks to Elemental Smite and the ability to completely forgo armor (but not shields) to have AC equal to 10 + Dexterity + Charisma.

One of the most versatile and best classes in DnD at level 20 there's a Warlock who also gains much of his power very early, making him awesome at level 3. Between Innate Sorcery for easy access to advantage on spellcasting, Font of Magic and Metamagic Options to customize your spells, and a few good subclasses, the Warlock has it all. With Draconic Sorcery alone, you can easily hit high damage burst and have buffed durability, making your 3rd level Warlock a driving force in any party.

The Warlock is often cited as one of the best low-level classes in the game, and for good reason. It has Eldritch Blast as a cantrip, Agonizing Blast as an Eldritch Invocation, the ability to regain Pact Magic slots, and some fantastic subclasses to choose from. While Warlock is perhaps the best candidate for multiclassing DnD 2024 his scaling makes his level 3 potential through the roof.

A-Tier: Your bread and butter level 3 DnD class

Bardic Inspiration is undoubtedly one of the strongest tactical abilities in the game, and while it's not quite a d8 bonus from level 5 yet, an extra d6 on a failed d20 test can be game-changing. Between Expertise and Jack of All Trades at level 2 and the subclass at level 3, Bard can quickly become very useful in any party and is even a threat of choice in a College of Valor fight. Cantrips are a great tool, but Bard probably becomes better at level 4 for the extra cantrips and ability score improvement, and 5 for the potentially more powerful Bardic Inspiration. It's still one of the best tier 3 classes, but unlike the other options, the tier 3 Bard's usefulness and role is more dependent on party size, becoming the best pick with 4+ players (including the Bard) and somewhat less so with 3 or less.

Monk is probably the class that has received the most improvements DnD 2024. At level 3 she has Delect Attacks which dramatically increase her durability, Martial Arts offers d6 damage for unarmed attacks or light melee weapons, and Monk's Focus gives you access to Focus Points and ways to spend them. With Flurry of Blows, you can attack three times a turn this way and then use Uncanny Metabolism to restore Focus Points if needed, which means Monk can be an excellent choice in the early levels. The tier 3 subclass can also be a dramatic upgrade for a monk, with options like Warrior of the Elements giving you elemental coverage and Warrior of Mercy helping out with either extra damage or small heals on allies or yourself.

While the Ranger is probably the worst class DnD at level 12 and up to level 20, her power jump at level 3 is good enough that she can overshadow other combat classes thanks to the Gloom Stalker or Beast Master subclasses. For one shot DnD campaigns or low-scale ones, a Tier 3 Ranger is actually a great choice, thanks to Hunter's Mark for extra damage, some magical action, Hunter's Lore for utility, and high skill with Expertise. His Nick weapons can be extra useful and deadly as you can attack twice while still having a free Hunter's Mark bonus action.

Although the Wizard is often thought of as the ultimate DnD wizard, at level 3 I don't think so. It has 3 cantrips and 6 spell slots (4 level 1 and 2 level 2), which means you'll often need to use cantrips for anything else, even if your spell list is the largest overall. As such, Sorcerer and Warlock often have the best spell loop at level 3, with Wizard becoming much better over time (maybe a top 5 class at level 3 and top 3 at level 4). However, the Diviner subclass remains a powerful tool for Wizards, as it has one of the best abilities in the entire game in Portent, which allows you to change the outcome of a d20 with either of the two pre-rolled d20s. Additionally, all of the Wizard subclasses are very good and have seen major updates DnD 2024, so the class feels good despite its tier 3 limits.

B-Tier: Tier 3 options that lack defining abilities

  • Craftsman
  • Barbarian
  • A cleric
  • Fighter

Artificer got a new print Dungeons and DragonsEberron: Forge of the Artificer next to the Cartographer subclass. Although being a half caster with intelligence scaling and medium armor has some drawbacks, the Artificer brings a lot of value to the table at level 3, both on their own and as a party. With a Replicate Magic Item unlocked at level 2 and a subclass to choose from at level 3, the Artificer can immediately taste its power at higher levels. Being able to get a free Bag of Holding, +1 weapon or shield, or Wand of the War Mage is fantastic, and Artillerist and Battle Smith are very strong choices as subclasses.

One of the best changes in Barbara v DnD 2024 is that it now has utility outside of combat with Primal Knowledge. While the class is still a one-trick pony, it's also significantly better than it was before, with an easy-to-maintain Rage that lasts 10 minutes, better damage scaling, and great subclasses. Berserker in particular went from arguably the worst subclass in 2014 to possibly the best in 2024, and the addition of the World Tree subclass also makes Barbarian a fantastic choice for aggressive tank fantasy. Berserker and World Tree are also part of what makes Barbarian a good tier 3 choice, with Weapon Masteries further mixed with a select subclass for more effects like Cleave with the Berserker, which does a lot of AoE damage. Still, the lower health pool at level 3 and Reckless Attack often fail, they can squish the barbarian a bit before bigger upgrades like Brutal Strike.

While Cleric lacks Divine Intervention at level 3, which is one of the best tools in the class' arsenal, it does have a decent selection of spells, and Channel Divinity's Divine Spark can be an awesome way to supplement healing or damage enemies. As subclasses, Light Domain is fantastic for a hybrid between support and damage, and Trickery Domain's Invoke Duplicity can be a tactical game changer depending on how it's used. At level 3, Cleric is a good class that has yet to mature into one of the best in the entire game, but some options (like Twilight Domain) in DnDTasha's Cauldron of Everything could be great for a variety of games if your DM approves.

The fighter suffered massive shocks DnD 2024, overall becomes a much better class at various turning points. Tier 3 fighters aren't there yet because they lack Extra Attack, Tactical Shift, Indomitable, and other features. However, Second Wind is a relief from the pressure of the party's healer, if there is one, and makes the fighter just as durable as the Barbarian at early levels, if not more so. More importantly, Action Surge is one of the most powerful parts of a Fighter's kit, even if it's a single use. The Eldritch Knight and Battle Master subclasses are probably the best options for a fighter as they offer spellcasting and maneuvers.

C-Tier: DnD classes with disadvantages that make tier 3 a struggle

  • Psion

  • Rascal

Dungeons and Dragons The new Psion class for 2024 is not released at this stage, but will reportedly be released later this year based on the Unearthed Arcana version. Unless major changes are made to the class, it acts as a Warlock via Psionic Discipline dice, with the pool increasing from 4d6 to 6d6 at level 5. This jump is significant, as each use of Psionic Discipline will require a die to be spent, and since level 5 adds a third Psionic Discipline to your pool along with the ability to restore your dice, it's the biggest breaking point for Psion in the early game. At level 3, with limited spell options and missing core features, Psion struggles a bit – even with decent subclasses.

Definitely not the winner in the 2024 edition, the best DnD Rogue builds often lack damage outside of the burst period. At level 3 Rogue lacks Cunning Strike and Unchanny Dodge to improve his damage, utility and survivability. While it takes 2d6 Sneak Attack damage, Steady Aim is mostly good for level 3 ranged builds because you can't move until you use it and your speed is 0 afterwards, while close builds can have more trouble. The Rogue subclass choice is decent, but doesn't really improve its weaknesses, especially at level 3. Arcane Trickster is probably your best shot because of sorcery and cantrips like Minor Illusion.
