Pokemon's Oversized Pikachu Museum Card now on sale for over $250

Pokemon will have a pop-up store at the National Museum of History later this month, which will be there until April 19, 2026. Earlier this week, it revealed a Pikachu card that will be given to customers who visit the store, and despite attempts to prevent the card from being sold at inflated prices, it's already being listed on resale sites for more than $250.

The news that there would be a promotional card associated with the Pokemon National History Museum came as a bit of a surprise to many, considering the chaos that coincided with the Van Gogh Pikachu card in 2023. The key difference between this card and the National History Museum card is size, an obstacle that The Pokemon Company clearly set out to avoid a repeat of the Van Gogh debacle.

Resale listings for Pokemon's Oversized Pikachu Card are now live

The Pikachu in the Museum card featuring a happy Pikachu standing in front of the National Museum of History is too big. Oversize cards tend to be more than twice the size of regular Pokemon cards and are usually undesirable for collectors. Their size means they hardly fit in binders and are largely seen as gimmicks designed to appeal to more casual fans.

If only there were a little more of that in the modern Pokémon fandom.

Unfortunately, the Pokemon's attempt at deterrence doesn't seem to have worked. Although the Pop-up Museum of Natural History won't welcome its first customers until 11 days from now, some of those who have secured a spot are already pledging their oversized cards to the highest bidders.

Logan Paul sells the world's most expensive Pokemon card and delivers it too

If you want a personal visit from Logan Paul, cough up a few million dollars, I guess?

Nobody has these cards yet, but they are already for sale

eBay is slowly starting to fill up with offers for the cards, with some asking collectors to pay upwards of $250 for a card that, like the Van Gogh equivalent, will be given away for free with purchases at the pop-up stores. The only silver lining is that these are buy-it-now prices for now, as opposed to real deal offers.

This could mean that even if scalpers wanted each of these cards to fetch $250, people wouldn't be willing to pay that. However, a lot of people are watching some of these deals, which suggests that there are collectors who won't have the opportunity to visit a pop-up store waiting to buy one of these cards once they gauge what the going rate will be for them.

It really is shaping up to be a rough 2026 for Pokemon fans who would like to enjoy being a Pokemon fan without having to take out a second mortgage on their homes. Not only were all the spots for the National History Museum pop-up snapped up long before the card was even revealed, which could mean resorting to scalper prices if you want them, but the first Lego Pokemon sets were revealed this week, and one of them costs $650.
