Big Far Cry upgrades teased

Three records in Far Cry series will soon be upgraded to 60 frames per second (FPS) on consoles, according to cryptic social media posts from Ubisoft that fans were quick to decipher. Ubisoft then confirmed that three Far Cry titles that will be upgraded to support 60 FPS on current generation consoles are Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragonand Far Cry Primal.

It was originally launched in 2004 Far Cry the franchise became known for its diverse open-world environments, fast-paced first-person action, and themes of survival in a lawless land. Three classic Far Cry titles will soon be playable at 60 FPS

Although Far Cry 3, Blood dragonand Primitive they are currently limited to 30 FPS on consoles, soon they won't be. On January 16, Ubisoft posted a mysterious image on X that showed three equations using emojis. The emoji combinations were quickly followed by fans who figured it out Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragonand Far Cry Primal will be playable at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Ubisoft awarded a “gold star” in response to users who correctly guessed their puzzles, and the company later clarified that the 60 FPS update would arrive on Wednesday, January 21. However, it is unclear whether these updates will be available for free or require separate purchases on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

They are currently the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the above Far Cry games can be played on current-generation hardware through backwards compatibility, which includes features like 1440p game resolution and automatic HDR. However, PS5 users in particular can get the better end of the upgrade deal. PS Plus Extra subscribers currently have access Far Cry 3 Classic Edition, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Editionand Far Cry Primal through the game catalog. With PS Plus Extra costing $14.99 per month, it remains to be seen if Far Cry upgrades will be available through this method. Far Cry 3 Classic Edition is also available via Far Cry 5 Season Pass. More details about Far Cry upgrades, including download sizes and other features, remain unknown at the time of writing.

Ubisoft may be planning another surprise

Ubisoft social media tease for Far Cry may be just the tip of the iceberg for the company. Various rumors have suggested that Ubisoft may have an announcement soon Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed franchise. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake could soon be available to launch alongside the highly anticipated remaster Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. Since both Ubisoft titles have been the subject of speculation throughout 2025, it stands to reason that Ubisoft could show fans more details for the launch of 2026. But unless the company says otherwise, rumors about Ubisoft's plans should be taken with a grain of salt.

Regardless of Ubisoft's immediate plans, current-gen console gamers will soon be able to experience three of the best Far Cry titles with a higher frame rate. With the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S now in their sixth year on the market, time will tell if other last-gen titles get upgrades that take advantage of each system's hardware.
