Grace’s Best Quotes In Resident Evil Requiem

Grace Ashcroft is a brand-new character to the Resident Evil franchise. Despite her relation to Alyssa Ashcroft, she is still a fresh face that brings a more grounded and fearful element to an otherwise action-packed game. Her personality is defined largely by her nervousness and uncertainty, but at her core, she is a caring and selfless person who only wants to do the right thing.

“Oh! Right, Sorry”

Stumbling Over Her Words

Resident Evil Requiem May Be Stuck in a Catch-22 After the Recent Leak Image via Capcom

  • Grace struggles when interacting with a police officer.
  • Her stutter is present throughout the game.

From the moment Grace appears on-screen, it’s clear she is a timid, nervous character and far from the courageous heroes seen in the rest of the series. However, those nerves are what make her such a likable character. She is just trying her best to do good and help the people around her, even if it takes a few stutters to get there.

Early on, before the real action gets going, Grace finds herself outside the hotel where her mother was murdered all those years ago. Despite being a government agent and having a reason for being there, she still takes a moment to actually show the local officer her badge, setting up her awkward demeanor before thrusting her straight into the middle of a deluge of horrors.

“I’ll Be Fine. I Hope”

Foreshadowing The Final Revelation

  • Confidence even in the face of death.
  • Attempts to stay calm.

Within the game’s first hour, Grace has already been through a lot. She’s been attacked, kidnapped, and rescued, all before players even shoot a bullet. When she and Leon initially meet, the two get separated almost immediately, leaving Grace rattled but in one piece.

As the two exchange a brisk goodbye, Grace reassures herself as best she can, saying that she will be okay, hopefully. The latter part of this line is the important part: the concept of hope becomes a much bigger piece of the puzzle than anyone could have imagined, and this line subtly foreshadows the entire reason for her capture and place in the story.

“This Is All My Fault”

The Burden Of Failure

Capcom May Be Shooting Itself in the Foot By Replacing the Original Resident Evil 9 With Requiem

  • Grace believes she is responsible for everything.
  • She’s been heavily impacted by her mother’s death.

Grace is a character full of guilt that had built up long before the events of Resident Evil Requiem. She witnessed her mother’s death and could do nothing to save her, and ever since then, she has been living with a feeling of accountability with no end in sight.

Which Difficulty Should You Choose in Resident Evil Requiem?

Pick the right mode in Resident Evil Requiem. From chill story runs to brutal survival. Here’s how each difficulty stacks up.

At several points throughout the campaign, Grace says “It’s my fault,” referring to her mom, Emily, and the wider issues in the world. The repetition is used to hammer home that guilt. Thankfully, by the end, she manages to redeem herself in her own eyes by saving the day and putting a lot of the questions she had to rest.

“I Wanted To Save Her!”

Concerned About Others First

  • Grace sees herself in Emily.
  • She’s constantly caring for a stranger.

Emily is a very interesting character in RE9. Her presence within the care home reframes the entire story with a much darker tone. Grace gets immediately attached to her, seeing some part of herself in the defenseless little girl, and despite how weak she is in the grander scheme of things, she still wants to do whatever she can to save her.

No matter where they are, Grace constantly checks to see if Emily is okay, looking over her shoulder and even carrying her around to keep her as secure as possible. When things take a sinister turn, Emily’s death has a major impact on Grace, bringing back all those feelings of guilt, until the ending scene, where she says, “I wish we could have saved Emily.” Leon then notes that she may, and actually is, still alive, allowing the two to have a much more optimistic and happy ending than expected.

“Do You Mind If I Come In?”

Innocence On Both Sides

  • Cares for Emily right from the start.
  • Grace develops a maternal relationship.

Seeing a small child locked in a cell for the first time was quite a surprise, and when Emily’s origins are revealed, it makes the whole scene that much crueler. That room is all she has ever known, and her blindness has made her dependent on whoever was guarding the cell and their twisted visions for her life down the line.

That all changes when Grace enters the picture. She notices straight away that Emily is blind and unaware of the horrors unfolding around her. Grace speaks slowly and calmly to her, pausing to talk about her reading, attempting to make a connection with someone who can not only help her escape but also help her survive.

Solving Problems Together

  • Slightly comedic moment to suggest her character change.
  • Grace faces the action head-on.

RE9 is a survival horror game at its core, and a lot of the dialogue and action certainly reflect that. However, there are a few moments where the characters can be a bit more positive, and even comedic, despite the overwhelming odds stacked against them.

7 Unresolved Mysteries & Plot Holes Left Hanging In Resident Evil Requiem

These story-based mysteries have fans stumped in Resident Evil Requiem. Here’s what big questions we desperately need answered.

After rescuing Emily from her cell, the two make their way to another puzzle, where Grace mentions how the child’s reading skills could potentially be their ticket to freedom. Though a smooth ride would have been nice, their comfy moment is interrupted by some unsettling noises, prompting Grace to reluctantly take charge in a way that perfectly fits her character and her new role as Emily’s guardian

“There’s Nothing Special About Me”

Revealing The Truth

What Happens if You Release Elpis in Resident Evil Requiem (Good Ending) (3) Image via GameRant; Source: Capcom

  • Grace uncovers the meaning behind Elpis.
  • She effectively saves the day.

The story of Requiem is quite the roller coaster. After fighting countless zombies and creatures of all shapes and sizes, Grace and Leon finally make it to the end, where they confront Zeno, and Grace ultimately figures out what Elpis actually is.

As the Wesker clone begins his villainous monologue, he begins to convulse and writhe, realizing that the substance was not what he originally believed. Grace takes a far more commanding, triumphant stance, explaining what Spencer had been working on and standing up to the danger before her, effectively shedding all of that self-doubt and fear in one fell swoop of confidence.

“I Don’t Want Any More Regrets. Whatever It Takes, Count Me In”

Fighting Through It All

Resident Evil Requiem Ending Explained Image via Capcom

  • Grace wants to see things through herself.
  • She’s attempting to avenge everyone.

Leon and Grace are quite the dynamic duo in RE9, and it is really cool to see the story unfold from multiple perspectives at once. The two are separated several times, but when they regroup in the later stages, Leon tries to be the hero and tells Grace he will handle Zeno and put a stop to his evil plot.

Despite previously showing only glimpses of self-confidence, Grace stands up and asserts that she wants to be part of the winning side. By taking a more prominent stance, she shows both herself and the player that she has changed and is ready to start a new chapter, without fear or worrying about her past mistakes.

“As Government Officials, We Have A Duty To Pursue The Truth”

One Final Send-Off

Resident Evil Requiem Grace

  • The report details a lot of lore points.
  • Grace gives an overview for the world to see.

One of the coolest parts about finishing Resident Evil Requiem is that players gain access to Grace’s report. This long text file pretty much sums up the lore of the entire game and the others connected to it, tying up a lot of loose ends and retconning a few details as well.

It is a good read for any fans wanting even more from the Resident Evil universe, but some of the best parts come right at the end. Grace talks about her and the rest of the government’s responsibility to expose the truth, taking a nice jab at a lot of the people involved with the original Raccoon City outbreak, and showing that she isn’t afraid to speak her mind, even against some of the most powerful organizations in the world.

“Rude”

Silly And Charming In The Middle Of It All

Young Grace in Resident Evil Requiem

  • Grace’s former self is clearly much more confident.
  • There are echoes of that previous wit.

For the majority of the game, Leon is the one making the jokes and bringing comedy to the experience. However, Grace does get a few light-hearted moments of her own that actually land pretty well, especially given how much more horror-oriented her sections are.

In the flashback, she brushes off a strange call in a pretty charming way, and much later on, when finding the third wristband, she says, “I’m going to borrow this.” Before that, she was checking pulses and slowly examining bodies, but in this funny moment, she lets some of her former self seep through her otherwise terrified exterior.
